Treat Your Man to Mandolin - Serving Sat. & Sun. Brunch

When it comes to being the fun parent, there's no contest - Dad always wins!  On Father's Day, help him keep his 'cool credentials' and take him to a great place to eat for Brunch or Lunch without going broke.  Your chips-off-the-old-block can have a chilled-out time with dear old Dad and at the same time make him proud that you didn't have to hand him the bill.

MandolinMan oh man it's Brunch at Mandolin!  Mandolin Restaurant is now serving Brunch and Lunch on Saturday's and Sunday's, starting 11am till 2:30pm.  Begin your Father's Day celebration with a Bloody Man-dolin, a special Bloody Mary Mix, Luksusova Vodka, and Pickled Okra.

The Menu offers locally-sourced Southern food with international influences.  Owner, Raleigh native Sean Fowler has taken the old southern classics and added unique twists paying attention to every detail that will make your taste buds say, "Whoa"!

Your waiter will begin by serving you homemade biscuits that are tastier than your granny's. Fresh marmalade and creamed churned butter compliment them.  Choices of entrees range from country Steak and Eggs; seared hanger steak, scrambled eggs, and home fries, to Chocolate ButtermilkMandolin Brunch Waffles with poached pears and Chantilly cream.  You'll love every bite.

The breakfast menu is impressive and mostly under $9, as well as their lunch menu.  A fresh variety of salads are offered, such as their Panzanella Salad with country croutons, smoked farmer's cheese, caper berries, oven-roasted tomatoes, house-made pickles, and herbs.  But if Dad is looking for something to sink his teeth into, we'd suggest the Beef Short Rib Sloppy Joe with Home Fries and mixed greens.

Mandolin uses the highest quality of local ingredients to create seasonal menus that represent a fresh Mandolin Home-Made Biscuitstake on Southern food. They source their meats, poultry, seafood, produce, and specialty products from a bounty of North Carolina farmers, ranchers, and artisans whenever possible.  By keeping cooking and ambiance close to home their food is seasonal, sustainable, and allows them to be true to their culinary and business philosophies based on the core values of preparing the best food, using the best ingredients, supporting our local economy, and conserving our natural resources.

Father's Day is the only day of the year that he monopolizes your time (or is it the other way around?), so entertain the man... take him to Mandolin!

He's the Man - Top 5 Father's Day Gifts

Ok, you've done the tie and custom cuff links routine.  And the soap-on-a-rope year is long forgotten.   Mow the lawn for him???  Fuhgeddaboudit!  Perhaps it's time to think like the "Mad Men" sixties and cater to his basic instincts.  For those of you who need help, consider some (or all) of these Top 5 Father's Day Gifts:

No.5 Grilling tools
Big Green EggThe grill, like a man's office, is a personal sanctuary where mastery means everything. But what kind of grill you say.  Subtly ask him how he likes his eggs? ... More often than not he'll respond that he's been dreaming about owning the Big Green Egg cooker.  This air-tight ceramic cook system supports precise cooking temperatures and keeps food moist.  Plus it looks really cool!  It'll translate to better meals for you when you drop in on his next barbecue.

Buy the Big Green Egg cooker: Seaboard Ace Hardware, Raleigh

No.4 Alcohol
Nothing can take the edge off of a day of stress and work like a nice, stiff drink.   However, good liquor is a luxury he's unlikely to give himself. Buy your "Mad Men" dad some top-shelf booze like a bottle of Lagavulin 16 single malt scotch.  He'll remember Father's Day every time he serves the best.

No.3 Fishing gear
The traditionalist in your dad may lead him to believe that fishing is only about a rod, a reel and some line. However, once he opens the luxurious Ross Evolution fly rod reel, you'll likely to see his vision ofFly Fishing Reels this age-old pastime expand to include new toys.  Perhaps he'll catch and serve you fresh trout (cooked on his Big Green Egg cooker) ... no rules say you can't get two gifts off this list.

No.2 i-Phone Gadgets
So what if your dad still "fat fingers" his iPhone.  At least give him credit for entering the digital age.  Perhaps he would get more excited about it if there was a way to make the i-Phone/Pad/Pod sound like a bona fide high-end audio system.  ALO's new Rx-3-B headphone amp and Cypher Labs' digital-to-analog converter are portable (i-Phone size) devices for use with good headphones.  The sonic difference is amazing and will make him feel much more in tune with the times.

No.1 Meat
The Meat HouseEvery dad thinks he holds the secret to the best grilling tricks on earth. Working with top quality ingredients will just add to his sense of confidence the next time he's called into action for guests or the family.  Luxury meat is available from mail-order meat establishments such as Omaha Steaks or locally from The Meat House (locations in Raleigh, Cary, and Chapel Hill).

Hall of Fame - Cigars
He probably won't admit it, but he's secretly hankering for some relaxed, post grill time with his single malt scotch and a good cigar.  Good cigar choices are the Fuente Fuente Opus X Reserva D Chateau or the Tatuaje Cabinet Noella:  The Opus X is one of the more sought-after cigars on the market and Tatuaje has become one of the hottest boutique cigar brands in America.  Both work best when smoked outside the house (Wife Acceptance Factor).

The Beltline Buzz items are selected by our editors.  No one can pay to be featured on The Beltline Buzz..  That's what advertising is for, and it's always labeled as such.  Selling ourselves (literally) would destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of  The Beltline Buzz.  Plus, we'd never earn your trust that way.  So we'll never make a dime off your meal at a restaurant nor a penny from the sale of the latest accessory we told you about.

That said, on occasion, we will send out "Dedicated" e-mails on behalf of sponsors.  You'll recognize them from the subject line: "The Beltline Buzz Dedicated E-mail."  Yes, these are paid for.  And, no, we would never sell our subscriber list to anyone.  Not for any amount of money.

We hope that you continue to enjoy your Beltline Buzz.  We look forward to delivering it.
