Born to Ride - Trolley Pub Raleigh
Philosophically speaking, mastering the art of balance gets harder as you grow up; this isn't practical advice when teaching someone to ride a bike. So take this tip instead: Put on your pedal-pushers, pack a cooler and invite 13 friends who can pedal with or without training wheels to meet you in downtown Raleigh for the Trolley Pub ride of their life. The Trolley Pub is a pedal-powered, eco-friendly, pub-crawling trolley like you've never seen before! You'll hop on board and pedal your way to Raleigh's best destinations.
Spoke Fun: The Trolley Pub is a 14-person pedal powered trolley on wheels, with a certified Trolley Pub conductor in the captain's seat. Perfect for pub crawls, birthday celebrations, bachelor and bachelorette parties, company outings, brewery tours, sightseeing, bar hopping. The possibilities are endless! A minimum of 6 peddlers are necessary to power the Trolley Pub, but more than 6 makes the pedaling easier.
The Wheel Deal: Can you drink on board? You may, but you have to follow the rules. No hard alcohol and no glass. All alcohol is BYOB. Alcoholic beverages must remain on board at all times. Bring your own ice chest and cups - or buy some of their plastic Trolley Pub Pints (beer not included, of course)! But the fun doesn't end there. Such awesomeness comes with a surprisingly reasonable price. For a full tour, Trolley Pub costs $350 ($25 a person with 14 people) Thursday-Saturday and $280 ($20 a person with 14 people) Sunday-Wednesday. Special events are charged by the hour- plus a drop-off fee if you need to have it transported to your event. There are student and military discounts as well. So make sure to ask.
Hard to Pedal? or Hardly Pedaling? It's not as bad as you'd think, but not as easy as you'd hope. Just think of Trolley Pub as your Personal Trainer for the evening. All things considered, pedaling the Trolley Pub is a blast and all those burnt calories are just an extra bonus! Plus, there is an electric-assistant (motor) when pedaling gets particularly tricky.
Trolley Pub Raleigh: Book a reservation for your special event by going online or calling: 919-473-3312. Tours begin and end just outside the Stir Lounge, which is located at 210 S. West Street, Downtown Raleigh. Website.
Bike or not, it's all downhill from here!

To Bee or Not to Bee
Hand to Mouth - Hen House Linens
There is nothing stylish about wiping unless it's with Hen House Linens. Of course, something this adorable has NC roots. Designer and founder, Jenny Davids was born and raised in North Carolina. Her love of fashion, food and textiles merged her talents into the line of table linens. Her gracious everyday living defines this contemporary elegant line.
Jenny along with her UNC roommate teamed up in creating Hen House Linens. Jenny Davids, originally from Ashville (but now living in Maryland) and Katherine Poole, of Raleigh decided that there is no time better than the present to bring a bit of manners and civilization back into the American home. Nothing defined that experience more than a family gathering around the table to share a simple meal. This custom they desperately wanted to pass down to their children, but could not quite get a handle on how to with a house full of adventuresome boys that barely sat still. So, they decided to start as simply as our Southern mothers had...with a napkin. And from that napkin, drew the inspiration for Hen House Linens.
Back in the Day: Remember how your mother would lay out her favorite linens? From the dining room to the kitchen to the patio would be tablesclothes from her collection of beautiful heirlooms, flea market finds and old standbys. Hen House Linens tablecloths and runners were designed with mother in mind. They're made for every day, yet elegant enough for special occasions. Hen House Linens offers a look that provides a warm and welcoming, easy and comfortable space for those who gather around you, in fun patterns and colors that mix and match with everyday dishes, and casual table settings. Hen House Linens are made of soft and inviting 100% cotton. They use color-fast dyes that allow you the ease of machine-washing and drying. The fabric will soften with age but retain its shape and colors for many years of gracious living. These napkins, placemats, runners, tablecloths, aprons and more are available at several Triangle stores and online.
Catch you on the flip side: A nod to Jenny's childhood spent spinning tunes from her family's vast collection of record albums. Side A, the solid-gold hit. Side B, the harmonious surprise. That's how she sees her fabulous quilted round charger. It's a dash more fancy than the placemat and is double-sided in lovely coordinating patterns. The 15" round is tightly quilted and lightly padded to wash and wear beautifully. And if one side gets over-played, you can always spin the flip side. (Each placemat reverses to a coordinating stripe!)
This is gracious living everyday...and that's the hen, and this is her house...Welcome!

The Beltline Buzz items are selected by our editors. No one can pay to be featured on The Beltline Buzz.. That's what advertising is for, and it's always labeled as such. Selling ourselves (literally) would destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of The Beltline Buzz. Plus, we'd never earn your trust that way. So we'll never make a dime off your meal at a restaurant nor a penny from the sale of the latest accessory we told you about.
That said, on occasion, we will send out "Dedicated" e-mails on behalf of sponsors. You'll recognize them from the subject line: "The Beltline Buzz Dedicated E-mail." Yes, these are paid for. And, no, we would never sell our subscriber list to anyone. Not for any amount of money. We hope that you continue to enjoy your Beltline Buzz. We look forward to delivering it.
