All Natural Sweetener - Sugarland Opens in Cameron Village

Local Legend Opens Second LocationSugarland, the locally owned dessert caf in Chapel Hill, Sugarland Cupcakes Raleighopened its second location in Cameron Village on Friday.  Named for Sugar Land, TX (home of Imperial Sugar) and not the country music duo, this quaint, Chapel Hill bakery has cornered the market on fresh, scratch ingredient, homemade cakes, cupcakes, gelato, desserts and coffee.  If that description was more than a mouthful ... it was intended.  It is that good.  On top of that, in May they will also open a full bar featuring their signature frozen gelato martinis.   Shaken, not stirred.

Eye Candy that Tastes as Good as it Looks:  Upon entering, your eyes are immediately drawn to the Gelato display case and its dazzling array of colors and swirls.  And for good reason ... Sugarland makes its homemade gelato using authentic Italian methods, fruits and ingredients.  The Gelato at Sugarland Raleighresult is an intensely flavored, creamy treat with less than half the fat and calories of premium ice cream.   Moving on to the display cakes and cupcakes you'll see du jour favorites and ever changing offerings.  They all look tempting but we've all been fooled by artful taste duds.  Well, take it from The Beltline Buzz, one bite of these scratch ingredient cupcakes and you will instantly put Sugarland at the top of your list.  They make spectacular and delicious cakes for birthdays, weddings, and all events.  Ingredients are organic and locally sourced whenever possible.  No wonder Sugarland has been singled out as "the best of the best in cakes and desserts ..." by multiple media sources.

Also Attractive on the Outside:  The sensory experience extends to the shop with its elegant, Sugarland Raleighcustom wood display cases (more coming), granite counters, tin roof and cool colors.  There is a nice espresso and coffee bar and plenty of comfortable seating indoors.  Outdoor caf seating is coming soon.   Open every day from 9am-10pm (11pm Friday and Saturday), Sugarland makes it convenient for everyone to stop by for coffee and dessert.  But don't forget to bring home some cupcakes!

Sugarland - Because Life is Sweet:  Locations: 140 E. Franklin Street, Chapel Hill - 919.929.2900; 2031 Cameron Avenue, Raleigh - 919.835.2100;  Online: WebsiteLike us on Facebook

The "Other" Sugarland:  Sugarland (the Grammy winning singing duo) is playing in Raleigh on April 28 at the Time Warner Cable Music Pavilion at Walnut Creek - Tickets.    Rumor has it that there may be a promotional event linking the two "Sugarlands" in the near future.  We'll keep you posted.

Tour D' Coop Parade of Combs on Saturday, May 19th from 10am to 4pm (rain or shine).

Started in 2005 as a way for a few neighbors to show off their hens and coops, the 'Henside the Beltline' Tour D' Coop has grown to a one-day garden tour that encompasses 26 coops and thousands of visitors now in several areas of Raleigh.  From 'Henside the Beltline', to Western Blvd, Creedmoor Rd, Duraleigh Rd and Regency Parkway, there's a lot of coopla and hen-peckeration going on for this tour.  Coop D' Thrill!

About the Tour D' Coop: This unique "Parade of Combs" features hens and coops tucked into the

gardens of your friends and neighbors.  This one-day garden tour seeks to educate visitors about keeping hens and delight them with garden ideas and inspiration.  Open to adults and children, the tour showcases various hen houses and breeds.  Coop owners are on hand at each location to discuss the how-to of chicken keeping and gardening.  The wide variety of coop styles as well as the surrounding back yard gardens make the tour interesting for the whole family.

2012 Featured Coops: The tour ticket and map are not available until the day of the tour to preserve the privacy of the homeowners featured.  However the website gives you a photo and brief description of the 26 coops.  We've picked four of our favorites and gave them titles.

You may purchase a tour ticket online or visit pick-up locations to receive your ticket the day of the tour.  Many coops are located close to the pick-up locations. Remember, your group only needs one tour ticket!

The event raises non-perishable food and money for Urban Ministries, a Raleigh-based non-profit

that provides essential services to close to 20,000 Triangle residents each year.  Coop owners and the tour organizers volunteer their time to promote back yard poultry and urban farming.

I Satisfy

The Beltline Buzz items are selected by our editors.  No one can pay to be featured on The Beltline Buzz..  That's what advertising is for, and it's always labeled as such.  Selling ourselves (literally) would destroy the legitimacy, integrity, and fun of  The Beltline Buzz.  Plus, we'd never earn your trust that way.  So we'll never make a dime off your meal at a restaurant nor a penny from the sale of the latest accessory we told you about.

That said, on occasion, we will send out "Dedicated" e-mails on behalf of sponsors.  You'll recognize them from the subject line: "The Beltline Buzz Dedicated E-mail."  Yes, these are paid for.  And, no, we would never sell our subscriber list to anyone.  Not for any amount of money.

We hope that you continue to enjoy your Beltline Buzz.  We look forward to delivering it.
