Investment Opportunities
Why Choose the UM Foundation

At some point most every local church has money to invest:

growth chart

  • A bequest received which will benefit the church in perpetuity
  • Property sold with proceeds to be used over time for capital needs
  • Reserves to be spent only as needed

When this happens, the church has many options:

  • Invest locally in CDs
  • Use a local financial advisor to buy mutual funds
  • Have funds managed by church members

With all these options why consider the Foundation?

We offer a disciplined, diversified, flexible and professional approach to investment management while providing competitive returns and adhering to the Social Principles of the United Methodist Church.

Socially Responsible Investing
What - Why - How
The Foundation's socially responsible investment (SRI) philosophy sets its Investment Program apart from traditional investment opset directontions.  We make a conscious effort to make investments in institutions that are consistent with the goals outlined in the Social Prinicples of the United Methodist Church.

Using portfolio screening we exclude investments in organizations earning significant revenue from gambling, the production of weapons-related systems or nuclear armaments, alcoholic beverages, tobacco or pornography.  And we endeavor to avoid investments that appear directly or indirectly to support racial discrimination, violations of human rights, sweatshops or forced labor or flagrant damage to the environment. 21st Century Stewardship
A Volunteer's Perspective
We live in economically challenging times.  United Methodists and the churches of the Northern Illinois Conference seek wise stewardship of their resources that will prudently multiply resources for ministry in ways consistent with our values.  The United Methodist Foundation of Northern Illinois (UMF) provides churches and agencies with an excellent way to invest funds, grow endowments and other charitable gifts.

As a member of Christ UMC in Rockford I know that the UMF has provided a responsible way to grow our endowment fund for future ministry that will have an impact locally, nationally, and around the world.  Read more...

We are eager to talk with you about our investment program.  Please call me or Executive Assistant Carolyn Cook (312.346.9766, ext. 104) for further information or to arrange for us to visit your church

Sincerely,

Harry Nicol, President

United Methodist Foundation of Northern Illinois Conference, Inc.
