Welcome to the First Newsletter of 2012! I hope the holiday season was warm and wonderful. The New Year is always an exciting time because it is the time of year that we really allow ourselves to open up to change and growth.

 

Our featured article this month, "How to Make New Year's Resolutions You Can Stick To", will help you to keep focus on the positive changes being made for the new year. You don't want to overwhelm yourself with too much at once. The key is manageable steps and the goal just follows.

 

My poem this month, Effective Change, also flows with the idea of positive growth in your life in a way that works.

StarsHOW TO MAKE NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS YOU CAN STICK TO

Happy 2012! New beginnings - like the beginning of a new year - often inspire us to want to change for the better. But New Year's Resolutions can be tricky. In January, we can start off inspired, but by March our resolutions may have overwhelmed us so much that none of them have stuck. If you can keep just a few things in mind, you can keep those goals all year round.

 

Baby steps. Make realistic goals for yourself. Every goal you set has several baby goals along the way. If you're looking to lose 100 pounds, for instance, remember that you have to start with those first five. So be clear on not just your ultimate goal, but the baby steps you need to take. Set a specific, realistic weight loss goal per month. Splitting your goal into bite-size pieces will make it easier to achieve.

 

Set reminders. Once you understand what your baby steps are, you can set monthly goals with reminders in your calendar. If you have an electronic calendar, you can even set an alarm for the first of every month. These reminders, even if they're small, will help keep both your baby steps and your ultimate goal in sight.

 

Be gentle, but firm. When it comes to resolutions, you are your own cheerleader. So remember to not beat yourself up. Cheer yourself on, recognize when you're just having a bad day and allow for slip-ups. You're only human and your inner cheerleader knows that. At the same time, be sure to keep plugging ahead the majority of the time. Encourage yourself with motivational notes around your home.

 

Adjust goals if need you need to. Situations and people change. You may get three or six or nine months into the year and feel like you're far from achieving the goals you set. That doesn't make you a failure. Remember, be gentle. If you thought you'd be down 50 pounds by June, but you're only down 20, you can adjust your yearly goal to reflect the average weight you've been losing per month. Plus, you can still pat yourself on the back because you have lost 20 pounds!

Effective change simply means your thoughts and feelings you must rearrange.

 

But isn't that an impossible you may ask?

 

It does seem like a daunting task!

 

Look for beauty in all things!

New thoughts and feelings that brings!

 

When you notice-

You are out of focus-

 

Change your mind-

Time after time-

 

A habit might take 30 days,

But it can create what you desire in all ways.

 

So, next time you aren't feeling good,

It's ok to do what you should.

 

Back away from bad-

Let yourself be glad.

 

If we all do this together-

We will be happy no matter the weather.

 

Sing a song of joy and peace

And all negativity you will release.

 

Then you will have a new start-

And you will know love in your heart!
