LOSE-TO-WIN

After a 12-week program

that consisted of weight

training, cardio, strength and agility drills, and weekly fitness challenges, the Lose-to-Win program ended with 18 participants and a total of 223 lbs. lost. The winners, based on total weight lost and highest amount of body fat lost in the 12 week period, are

Valerie Vick, Greg Eby, Chris Stackhouse and Arelis Orta.

The program had many moving parts, most of them created to give the participants the opportunity to challenge themselves as they undertook a lifestyle change for the duration of the program. The weekly challenges, occurring every Wednesday night, tested each participant in ways many doubted they could ever have accomplished prior to the beginning of this segment of Lose-to-Win. Another added dimension of the class was bi-weekly healthy cooking classes taught by Michele Kurten, a member who has overcome weight issues and remained successful in her decision to make healthier choices when it comes to diet and exercise. Michele was a valuable asset as she gave the participants an opportunity to create a relationship with someone who had walked the walk and could now offer them guidance in their own personal journeys.

The best part of the program was participants bonding with each other. One thing that was stressed to the extreme was active participation with each individual taking control of their lives, empowering them to take their overall health into their own hands.

Here's what you said about Lose-to-Win:

- "Mike was excellent!"

- "The instructor showed the YMCA values. He went above and beyond. Truly caring and pushed me to work harder."

-"Teamwork was encouraged greatly."
