20TH ANNIVERSARY OF CHILD CARE CENTER
childcare anniversary roundedOn January 3, 2011 the Newport News Family YMCA Child Care Center celebrated their 20th year in serving the community.  Several children from the first class returned to the center to celebrate with the children currently in the program.

The first class consisted of 14 children.  Since 1991, thousands of children and their families have been served by the center.  Senator Bobby Scott joined the fun, reading stories to the children.

FEBRUARY LOVE MONTH

New Genesis and New Beginning is teaming-up with the local businesses to honor Black History Month as "FEBRUARY LOVE MONTH."

For three weeks boxes will be placed at three locations to collect donations for the United Way, Meals on Wheels and the Salvation Army.

Donations made at the Newport News YMCA will go to the Peninsula branch, and those made at the two Virginia Beach locations will help the Southside branch of the Salvation Army.

Theresa Wilson, Membership Director, at the Newport News Family YMCA partnered with the groups and is looking forward to stepping in and helping again.  "This is a very easy task to help with, and another opportunity for us to reach out to the community, which is what the YMCA is all about." said Wilson.
