Healthy Living

Teen youth red

Last month we introduced you to the first of our our three areas of focus: For Youth Development. This month we'd like to share about our second area of focus: For Healthy Living.

Behind "For Healthy Living" is the fact that across the nation and right here in Virginia, the Y is a leading voice on health and well-being. With a mission centered on balance, the Y brings families closer together, encourages good health and fosters connections through fitness, sports, fun and shared interests. As a result, millions of youth, adults and families receive the support, guidance and resources needed to achieve greater health and well-being for their spirit, mind and body.

eBreakfast of Y Champions

On behalf of the Newport News Family Breakfast of Y Champions

YMCA Board of Managers and staff, we would like to thank all our sponsors:  MorganStanley SmithBarney, Dominion Terminal, Car-Robics Auto Wash, Lions Bridge Financial, Mulkey, Reid and Barton, Raymond H. Suttle, Jr., Law Firm of Jones, Blechman, Woltz & Kelly, PC and John Gerke, Thrivent Financial for Lutherans.  We would also like to thank our guest speakers:  Delegate Glenn Oder, Kara Keeling and Bertha Thompson, John Gerke (Board Chair), LaMonte Williams (Vice Chair) and Tripp Spencer (Breakfast Committee Chair), for leading the program throughout the morning.  We appreciate all you did to make our "Breakfast with Y Champions" a success.

The event was held on Friday, November 5, 2010, at the James River Country Club.  Generous donations and sponsorships raised   $15,000 which will help our YMCA tell our story to 100+ businesses and community members of Newport News, but most importantly continue to allow us to provide financial assistance to the families and individuals of our community who may not otherwise be afforded the opportunity to utilize our programs and services.
