The quiet unassuming John Sawyer paints in bold clear colors. He captures a brightness in nature that seems to startle the senses.
John has been painting since the mid-1980's. He began copying the works of California artists such as Edgar Payne, William Wendt & Hanson Puthuff. In 2005 while on a visit to Russia with his wife, Olga, John met classically trained artist, Alexey Ivanovich Pankeev who encouraged him to paint originals in his own style. And are we glad he followed Alexey's advice!

We've been begging John for some bigger works & he has obliged us with 3 large stunning pieces along with a number of smaller paintings he has been stockpiling.
His scenes are always local, most likely influenced by his childhood antics climbing eucalyptus and raking leaves after the Santa Ana winds.
John paints 24/7. He has taken classes with artists Tom Brown & Victoria Templeton. He has won numerous awards at the Annual Tustin Art League Shows. Let's encourage him to enter more competitions!
