My tail has been wagging full speed this month! So many great plans in the works for the festival, which is a few months away now.
I just found out this week tickets went on sale for my festival. Might I suggest we gather the packs and start howling out the news to every dog lover. We had a "grrrr"-eat time last year. For sure, it is THE place to be this summer for canines, their families, and friends.
"Fido's Island Campout" tickets are also available. Sniff around my website for all the details pertaining to camping and make your reservations. Guess what? I hear there will be a contest for the best island themed campsite with a prize awarded to the best tent and best recreational vehicle. The camping package includes tickets for the entire festival too. What a bargain!
Now for some really exciting news! Have you heard? It's official. I'm engaged! It happened so suddenly. I got wrapped up in all the excitement of the World Breaking Record attempt for the Largest Dog Wedding Ceremony taking place on Saturday, August 29 at 2 PM. and I popped the question. So, at the festival this year you will meet Fidette, my fiancé. We'll be walking down the red carpeted aisle to the Wedding March to take part in this milestone event. As a matter of fact, we will be leading the wedding procession. If you haven't signed up yet, it is really easy to do. PoochPartners will help you meet your mate. Check it out.
Did you know that I now have a Twitter account? Follow the scent as we tweet tidbits on festival happenings, dog factoids, amazing dog stories, and much more. Log on to Twitter and follow fidosfestival. We'll follow you back!
I was at the dog park last week and heard some humans talking about something called Facebook. It sounded very strange to me. At first I did not want my "business" out on the worldwide web but I did hear it is a really great way to spread the word about Fido's Festival USAŽ . I thought the whole concept sounded quite fascinating. Then I thought, why not ask all my friends out there to include the festival on their Facebook pages. So here I am begging, a very cute characteristic of my species, for you to become a fan of Fido's Festival USAŽ . You will receive updates as they happen and not have to wait for the next newsletter.
Well, that's my report for this month. Now I have to sneak back into festival headquarters to listen in so I have more to share with you next month.
Enjoy the remaining days of June!
Lure For The Cure Racing
Here's something my canine friends of all sizes and breeds are going to LOVE! For the first time ever on the east coast Lure for the Cure will introduce their High Performance Lure Course. The best part is that they picked my festival to make their debut. They will be traveling from Arizona to be with us. Rrrrr-eady to race with me? Come on, you can do it. Almost any dog can do this because we all love to run and chase things.
Word around the dog park is that high performance lure courses are rapidly becoming an exciting dog sport and one of the few dog sports that 90% of the dogs need no training to enjoy. So how does it work? We get to chase a tail around an enclosed course built for fun and speed. We are timed so you know that our dog owners will be just as excited about this since they like to show us off. What is really special about this is the National Canine Cancer Foundation's "Lure for a Cure" proceeds go to funding canine Cancer research. So, we can enjoy what we do naturally while raising money to help beat canine cancer.
It is worth bringing your dog to Fido's Festival USAŽ just for this activity alone!
Island Fun Photo Contest
Hey, surfer dudes and dudettes. Get your best island outfits out of your closet and start posing. Ask your human best friend to capture the moment so you can bring your best island picture with you to Fido's Festival USAŽ. There's going to be a photo contest with prizes too! Rumor has it that the winners will be posted on the Fido's Festival USAŽ website. You can be famous on the worldwide web! So, start moving those paws. You have the next two months to try on all your best island themed outfits and take your picture. Remember, it must be island themed in order to enter this contest. Be creative. Use props. Go to the beach. Dig in the sand.
Categories will be listed on the website in the upcoming weeks.
Since our May issue, more rescues and shelters have sent in their applications for a complimentary booth at the festival. We are happy to add to our list:
A Buddy For Life, Inc., Cumberland County SPCA and Animal Shelter, First State Greyhound Rescue, National Greyhound Adoption Program, Pet Savers, Inc.
We now have a total of sixteen rescues and shelters registered. If you are a rescue or shelter and have not yet registered, please complete your application to get the ball rolling. We want you at Fido's Festival USAŽ!
Shelters and rescues are an important part of Fido's Festival USAŽ and as such booth space is free. All rescues are encouraged to bring their adoptable dogs with the hope that their new forever homes will be found.
What's Your Best Record?
Last year I had a great time at the agility course. I remember running through a tunnel, seeing how fast I could maneuver the cones, leaping to the next challenge, and trying to beat my own record. There were dogs who tried to challenge my record too, but that was all part of the fun. There was also free time to practice, some training demonstrations, and Frisbee throwing as I recall.
I am barking sounds of delight and getting exciting that Absolute Control Dog
Training will be sponsoring the Agility Course again this year.
If my memory serves me right, there were some great prizes for winners of the agility contests. Care to challenge me? I'll be waiting for you. With a year's practice I should win something, right?
Fido's Learning Shack
If you didn't attend last year, you probably do not know that humans have the opportunity to learn about wellness topics and other fun subjects as it pertains to us canines. Here's what I know so far about this year's presentations:
- Dr. David Best & Elvis from the "Greatest American Dog" reality television show will return again this year. David Best, MD, MBA, is currently president and co-founder of thedoctorschannel.com and is a physician in New York City. He'll share about Elvis' experience as a television star.
- This above topic will go hand-in-hand (or paw-to-paw) with the topic being presented by Down Wolfe, Talent Coordinator from AnimalActors, who will do a presentation on how to get your dog into show biz.
- Dr. Harvey Cohen, a pioneer in holistic and natural nutrition for animals and Founder of Dr. Harvey's Healthy Formulations, will be presenting "Feeding Our Companion Animals Naturally and Holistically"
- Karen Quigley and Elwood, best known for being crowned the 2007 World's Ugliest Dog, will be back again this year. Karen will present "It's OK to be Different"
- Laurie and Andrew from The Greatest American Dog TV Realty Show will be with us again. This year, Laurie, owner of Pup 'N Iron Canine Fitness & Learning in Fredericksburg, VA, will present "Relationship Building Skills with Your Dog"
- Kathy McQuire, President and Founder of New Jersey Aid for Animals, returns to present the important topic on "How the Private Citizen Can Recognize and Report Animal Cruelty...Connecting the Dots for Successful Prosecution"
My ears perk up whenever I hear Fido's Learning Shack mentioned. There will be different topics each day so there is something new to learn each day. Keep checking the website as we update our special guests as they are confirmed.
How many of you LOVE going to the park to play with your pals? I have some terrific news! Camp Bow Wow, Cherry Hill, NJ, signed on to be the sponsor of our Doggie Play Area. Camp Bow Wow will bring play equipment for canines of all sizes to romp around and exercise. The area will be fenced with dividers separating small and large dogs. I am jumping for joy! It is very exciting to have Camp Bow Wow on board this year as they celebrate the opening of their brand new facility in the fall. Their qualified staff will monitor the area so snarls and "ruff" play can be avoided. Meet you in the park?
