Invest in Entrepreneurs for a New Economy

Ei Alfa

I am writing this to you having literally just shaken the hands of 71 individuals who completed a rigorous course of study to launch and grow their businesses. They are joining the 494 Community Business Academy graduates who came before them, creating a community that is working diligently towards a path of prosperity in this new, uncertain economy.

Like Bhaier Ramsingh-Lance or Lori Childs who both launched their businesses this month, these individuals are financing their dreams with savings, loans from microlenders and cash they generate from their nascent businesses. Collectively, they are building up household incomes, hiring and adding new goods and services to the local economy. Most importantly, despite the obstacles they face, they are resilient.

In essence, Rising Tide Capital and each of its supporters is an investor in a new, more hopeful future that re-energizes the capillaries of our society which has been so damaged by economic marginalization and disinvestment. We have an urgent opportunity to do something truly right- in real time- now.

Your investment and donations to Rising Tide Capital go directly to support our entrepreneurs in growing businesses that are the foundation of a new economy. Start something today by investing in their future.

Sincerely,

Alfa Demmellash

The Start Something Challenge Takes Off

Rising Tide Capital has been the local host of Global Entrepreneurship Week in New Jersey for the past four years.

In 2011, we expanded our GEW celebrations to include Essex County under the theme of Start Something NJ- a challenge to New Jersey's residents to support entrepreneurship as a vehicle for promoting economic growth at a critical time.

This year, instead of one week, Rising Tide Capital will launch a series of programs beginning on May 31st to support its largest business pitch competition to date, The Start Something Challenge. Read More.

On May 15, Rising Tide Entrepreneur Bhaier Ramsingh-Lance launched her business, Moms's Choice LLC, at a well-attended grand opening ceremony in Jersey City. Based in Journal Square, her business matches clients with child and adult caregivers based on each individual's preferences. Shortly after her launch, Bhaier was profiled in the Jersey Journal

Only one week later, Lori Childs hosted a ribbon cutting ceremony for BCBL Credit Repair Solutions at its new office in Maplewood. The mayor of Maplewood attended the event and praised Lori's role in helping locals qualify for mortgages.

Harvey George Leaves Legacy in Jersey City

Harvey George stands between Rising Tide Capital co-founders, Alfa Demmellash and Alex Forrester.

There are few people who had such an impact on Rising Tide Capital as Harvey George did. When Rising Tide Capital co-founders Alfa and Alex moved to Jersey City, Harvey was one of the first to welcome their vision for the community. On May 18th Harvey passed away, but his legacy and inspiration will live on.
