Powering Dreams & Economic Independence

Ei Alfa

Summer is a busy time for entrepreneurs at Rising Tide Capital as they prepare for the start of the Fall season. Your support is powering dreams and planting seeds in inner cities to restore a sense of hope and economic independence.

In this issue of The Currents, we present an update from our recent Plan & Pitch Competition, with perspectives from our entrepreneurs, a volunteer coach, and one of our access to capital partners. This June we were sad to lose Danielle Woods, our communications assistant for the past year, as she went off to graduate school. However, we want you to meet Justyna Krygowska our new communications assistant, who has already proven to be a valuable addition to our team. We also invite you to get to know our interns who are bringing new energy and passion to our organization this summer!

Despite news of state funding cuts, we are pushing harder to build businesses faster with the support of our entrepreneurs, our donors and funding partners and doing our part to create much needed jobs. This Fall, we are preparing to educate 80 entrepreneurs from inner-cities in the surrounding region and serve hundreds more returning for one-on-one advice and technical assistance. As we move into new territory by adding an additional class outside of Jersey City this fall, I urge you to continue to support us with a tax deductible donation. Contribute today to our campaign to reach 500 entrepreneurs with our tools for economic independence through entrepreneurship!

Sincerely,

Alfa Demmellash

Perspectives from a Plan & Pitch Corporate Volunteer

Peter Cureton, Plan & Pitch Volunteer

Peter Cureton, one of the Goldman Sachs Community TeamWorks volunteers, was very passionate about his role as a volunteer coach at Plan & Pitch 2011.

Through Community TeamWorks, Goldman Sachs employees choose a team-based community project with a non-profit program. Rising Tide Capital has collaborated with Goldman Sachs on Community TeamWorks for the past 5 years. Peter selected Rising Tide Capital as his community project because it was an opportunity to be engaged in microfinance "in a hands on kind of way."

LuisDeLaHoz
Luis De La Hoz micro-blogging at Plan & Pitch

One of the unexpected benefits to the entrepreneurs who participated at Plan & Pitch was the opportunity to apply for an Intersect Fund microloan for their business right then and there.

Luis De La Hoz, a Loan Officer and Hispanic Community Outreach Coordinator for the Intersect Fund, participated as a volunteer coach at the event. Not only did he micro-blog the entire event, providing total social media coverage including both photos and videos, but at the end of the day, Luis also gave a presentation on the benefits of applying for a business microloan with the Intersect Fund.
