Global Entrepreneurship Week (GEW) in Jersey City 2010 is less than a month away! At Rising Tide Capital, our entire team along with a few new helpers (interns from New Jersey City University and Saint Peter's College), as well as all of our community partners, are working diligently to make this year's GEW celebration bigger and even more impactful. We are sure that all of our hard work will yield great learning, networking and awareness opportunities for our entrepreneurs and small businesses throughout our city during the Week! However, even with all of the help that we already have, in order for this year's GEW celebration to truly be unforgettable and to make sure that the spirit of entrepreneurship is fully embraced, we need YOUR help!

This year, we ask you to Take the Buy Local Pledge, and promise  to support the entrepreneurs in your community! If you live and work in and around Jersey City, we are challenging you to commit some of your holiday dollars to the independent small business owners that keep the engine that is Jersey City's economy going. If you don't live near Jersey City, still make a commitment to spend some of your holiday funds in your own neighborhood. We have so many resources right in our own backyard, but sadly we do not take advantage of them as often as we should. The opportunities for shopping and entertainment are endless in Jersey City, as our small business culture is as diverse as the business owners! Go shopping in Jersey City's Downtown district, or find hidden gems in the Heights or Greenville. Also, check out your local newspaper or bulletin boards to buy gift certificates to local self-employed service providers.

We have the power to ignite an economic revolution in each of our communities by spending wisely into the businesses that hire and invest locally! By taking (and keeping) the Pledge, you become a vital contributor to our local community. Your dollars will contribute to the success of local small businesses and help create the ripple effect of jobs and increased economic opportunities in our community.  Take the Buy Local Pledge today! Tell all of your friends, neighbors, and family members about the Pledge, and encourage them to do their holiday shopping in Jersey City.

To find out about more GEW activities, including our ever expanding event schedule, follow us on twitter, like our fan page on facebook, and check out our special GEW website! Together, we can get the ball rolling and raise the tide of economic opportunity for in our communities!

Thank you!

Beverly
Beverly Williams addresses City Hall during GEW 2009

When Beverly Williams' husband, Stephen Hinchey, became unemployed, they decided to view the situation as an opportunity to start a new business. Both in their 50s, Beverly and Stephen felt that whatever business they started should be one that they could continue to run after retirement.  After much thought and deliberation, they came up with Bus4Us, a service that provides transportation for children to and from school, after-school activities, and school trips.

Bus4Us, which caters to children as young as two and half years old, offers safe, reliable service with a personal touch- Beverly and Stephen personally meet with each of the parents and their children (either at their home or at the home of the potential clients) before the children start using the service. "We want to build a good relationship and comfort level before the child rides," said Beverly. "Parents and grandparents can ride with the children until they feel completely comfortable."
