Mission Statement

The Salinas Arts Congress provides the community with leadership and organizational resources that are vital to the development, maintenance and promotion of the arts.  The Council will be responsive to the artistic needs of the community and dedicated to the nurturing the expression of the rich and diverse cultures of our city.

October 3rd, is Salinas Arts Day!
 Mayor Donohue has declared the 1st Friday in October Salinas Arts Day in conjunction with the annual California Arts Day.  Celebrations will take place during the First Fridays Art Walk and include special presentations by the Arts Council for Monterey County at the Salinas Library.

The proclamation by Mayor Donohue for Salinas Arts Day was made at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, September 16, 4pm, in the Rotunda at City Hall. 
Dear Arts Congress Member,

Thanks to all of you for participating in our seventh meeting on September 18, 2008.  I regret not being able to attend,
 
The Arts Congress moving forward with the plan to acquire 501c3 status for the Salinas Arts Congress and looking for an arts and office space.
 
Mayor Donohue and the City of Salinas has committed to founding an official Salinas Arts Commission

ArtStart Salinas: Paint the Town in a New LightNon-Profit Status
 The Salinas Arts Congress will seek 501(c)3, Not-For-Profit Status, and develop a postive link with the City of Salinas Arts Commission. 

We have discussed and planned all we can, now let's create a cutting-edge arts community that will be the model for other communities to follow.
 
I invite everyone of you to join a committee that is suited to what you would like to contribute ~ and volunteer to be on the Board of Directors or Salinas Arts Commission.  Thank you!

 PS: I looked at the upstairs space in the back at 242 Main Street - the rent is $800 per month - there would be office and creative space, both.  The entire top floor is for rent for $1500.  It is where the Jeff Taylor headquarters are now.
