October 3rd, is California Arts Day!
Mayor Donohue is proclaiming the first Friday in October Salinas Arts Day in conjunction with the annual California Arts Day.  Celebrations will take place during the First Fridays Art Walk and include special presentations by the Arts Council for Monterey County.

The proclaimation will take place at the City Council Meeting on Tuesday, September 16, 4pm, in the Rotunda at City Hall.
Dear Arts Congress Member,

Thanks to all of you for participating in our sixth meeting on August 18, 2008.  We has some great news to share, and now just need to get to work tonight.

For those of you who did not attend the last meeting, we are moving forward with the plan to aquire 501c3 status for the Salinas Arts Congress.

At the same time, Mayor Donohue and the City of Salinas has committed to founding an official Salinas Arts Commission!

Our feeling is the two organizations can work together to bring Salinas into the 21st century artistically.  We can create a cutting-edge arts community that will be the model for other communities to follow.

The Salinas Arts Congress meets tonight in the Santa Lucia Room at Salinas Community Center, 7:00 PM.

What you said:
The Salinas Arts Congress will seek 501(c)3, Public Benefit Not-For-Profit Status, and develop a postive link with the City of Salinas Arts Commission.  Seek to become recognized as the offical Salinas fundraising and advisory body. Advise the City on Public Arts Policy, and other arts issues.
The sixth Salinas Arts Congress has set the stage for all of us to push up or sleeves and get to work!  We have disscussed and planned all we can, now we need to step up to get this task accomplished.

I invite you to join a committee that is suited to what you would like to contribute to the community, and/or apply to be on the Board of Directors or Arts Commission.

Please tell your friends and help us to pass the word about what we are doing (there is a link to forward this e-mail at the bottom of the page) - we need the entire community to  make this work!

Thank you!
