Why Organic Seed?
As the seed catalogs pile up for your perusal, the selection of organic seeds seems to be growing every year. Have you ever wondered why? What's so great about organic seed?
Many of us have made efforts in the last few years to grow our vegetables organically. Building up our soil with compost and organic amendments, avoiding chemical solutions to pest and disease problems, and opting for more natural remedies. If you are going to all that effort to grow and eat naturally, starting with organic seed just makes sense.
Still skeptical? Watch this video to learn what's so special about organic seed. Many traditional seed crops have it so good, being produced in such a "perfect" environment, that they don't adapt well to organic soils. Hmmmm . . . watch the video - it will give you something to think about.
Speaking of ordering seeds . . .
do you have seed varieties on your wish list that may be hard to find? Let us know what you hope to grow and we will try to add it to our seed selection this spring. Email your wishlist to burlingtongc@sbcglobal.net.

Debunking a Birdseed Myth
Myth: White millet is a cheap filler seed.
Fact: Ground feeding birds such as juncos and song sparrows love millet (photo on left). The problem comes in when birdseed mixes have more millet than anything else. Birds coming to tube feeders and hopper feeders are looking for black oil sunflower seed and seed other than millet. If the birdseed mix contains too much millet, the cardinals and other perching birds will eventually get tired of kicking out the millet and look for another feeder.
A good seed mix (photo on right) will contain just enough millet for the ground feeding birds to enjoy without discouraging the the perch feeding birds.
A little millet is good, too much millet is bad.
Try our no-waste birdseed mixes and Cole's birdseed mixes for just the right amount of millet.
