| Natalie Kate Bolin Forever Fund Established | |
Announcement of the new Natalie Kate Bolin Forever Fund was one of the
highlights of Mercy Health Foundation's
Mary Jo Menzies with daughters Stephanie and Leah and scholarship winner Morgan Zuleger. |
annual Friends for Life donor appreciation event. Mary Jo Menzies and her family created the permanent endowment fund to honor the beautiful spirit and life of her 16-year-old daughter Natalie who died as the result of a car accident in February. The outpouring of support from Mary Jo's co-workers at Mercy Medical Center; Natalie's Oshkosh West High School friends and their families; and her church has helped sustain the family and make creation of the fund possible.
The first activity for the Natalie Kate Bolin Forever Fund was launch of the Natalie Kate Bolin Mercy Student Volunteer Scholarship to recognize a graduating senior at West High School. Mary Jo and her daughters, Stephanie and Leah, presented the 2010 award to Morgan Zuleger at ceremonies held May 27 at Oshkosh West High School to remember Natalie with her classmates and teachers. Another daughter, Ashley was unable to be present.
Going forward, Mary Jo and her family will be able to support additional projects in remembrance of Natalie through the Natalie Kate Bolin Forever Fund. For more information, click here. |
| Friends for Life Celebrates Donors | Dr. Dick and Jane Clark were honored for their service to Mercy Medical Center, the Foundation and Oshkosh community at the 2010 Friends for Life donor celebration June 1. Dr. Clark is a third generation surgeon in Oshkosh and at Mercy. He and his family were the impetus behind creation of the Clark Family Health Science Library that has served Mercy staff and patients so well. Dr. Clark was also a member of the Mercy Health Foundation Board of Trustees in the 1970's.
Although a novice at fundraising, in 1998, Dr. Clark agreed to chair the new hospital campaign, and with Jane's support and involvement, did a great job. The campaign was the largest in Mercy's history, raising $4.3 million; well over the minimum goal. Mercy just celebrated its tenth anniversary in the new facility.
Also recognized for outstanding philanthropy were 2010 Health Care Hero award winners: Dr. Issam Al-Bitar, Dr. John & Nancy AufderHeide, Dr. Pepper Snapple Group, Harold & Sally Eichstadt, J.J. Keller Foundation, David & Sue Leach, Mercy Medical Center Auxiliary, Nercon Engineering & Manufacturing, Oshkosh Area Community Foundation, John Piencikowski, Herman Schultz, John & Susy Vette, Dr. Eric Wilson, and Donna Zmolek.
Foundation trustees Marti Norton and Mary Brefeld received Community Service Health Care Hero Awards for their extensive work with the new Discover Mercy program. |

| Four Good Reasons for Making a Will | |
1. You determine how you want your assets divided, not the State of
Wisconsin.
2. You may be able to reduce or avoid estate taxes.
3. You can make sure your family and your favorite charities are
provided for.
4. You will have the peace of mind that comes from putting your affairs
in order.
Only one in three individuals has a signed will although creating one is fairly easy and inexpensive. Basic forms can even be downloaded from the Internet. However, professional advice is usually recommended to be sure everything will be distributed as you wish.
The simplest way to make a gift to a cause you are passionate about is through a bequest in your will. All that is needed is a clause that gifts a specific amount or percentage of the total assets to a charity. If your gift is directed to Mercy Health Foundation, we recommend you indicate if it is: 1.) unrestricted for use as needed to support the overall mission; 2.) restricted for a specific use and/or 3.) designated for permanent endowment. This additional information clarifies and properly documents the intent of your estate gift. Additional information on bequests or other ways to make a legacy gift are available at Mercy Health Foundation's planned giving web site, or by calling 223-0520 or emailing Vicki Schorse. |
