Thank you!
In this 2009 season of giving, we thank you for making health care a priority for your charitable gifting. This is a time of great need in which Mercy Health Foundation has narrowed its focus to critical projects that save lives and meet basic health care needs in our communities. We are honored that you have chosen to join us in this good work.
"Christmas is not as much about opening our presents as opening our hearts." ~Janice Maeditere
May you have a blessed Christmas. |

| Mercy Gets in the Loop |
Hearing loop technology, purchased with a grant from Mercy Health Foundation, is now operational in Conference Rooms A and B, the largest meeting rooms at Mercy Medical Center. Hearing loops transmit the speakers' voice directly from a microphone to telecoil equipped hearing aids, avoiding the blurring of sound from room noise that can occur for people with hearing loss even with hearing aids. Conference Rooms A and B are both used extensively for staff meetings and training as well as support group meetings and community classes like hunter safety. About half of all hearing aids used in the United States have telecoils, but the percentage is increasing as more pubic facilities like concert halls, meeting rooms and churches install hearing loops. | Welcome Anthem Members! |
In November, Affinity Health System released the exciting news that a new contract with Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield now allows people insured under that plan to receive health care services at all Affinity facilities, including Mercy Medical Center and the Affinity Medical Group Clinics. Affinity in-network status applies to all Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield members in Wisconsin, including those enrolled through the Medicare and Medicaid programs. This agreement gives Anthem patients access to one of the broadest networks of doctors, hospitals and specialists in the Fox Valley. For more information, click here. |
| What is Planned Giving? |
|
Planned giving is a blending of personal, financial and estate planning goals with a lifetime of charitable giving. Individuals with financial capacity who have supported charitable causes during their lifetime may culminate that support in a personal legacy through their estate. It can be as simple as a bequest of assets or establishing a trust. There are several different types of trusts, some of which provide tax and income benefits during the life of the donor or estate tax benefits. Many people desire to support a charity but are unable to donate property or other assets during their lifetime because they are needed. Again, leaving a legacy to a cause of personal interest can be as simple as a bequest of a portion of an estate. However, investing in a cause through a financial vehicle such as a charitable gift annuity can provide additional income during the lifetime of the donor as well. Planned gifts are frequently directed to endowment funds to make the donor's legacy permanent. Because only the earnings from endowments are used to support the charitable cause, the gift keeps on giving.
