Greetings!
My apologies for my tardiness in getting this newsletter to you. As some of you know, my husband had major surgery last week and I have been needed at home. He's recovering slowly but the prognosis is good. He's very lucky in that he won't need chemo or radiation therapy, so despite what he's going through at the moment, we're counting our blessings. Thanks to everyone for your prayers and support. It's hard to believe that November is here! There is still time to plan some wonderful homemade gifts for the special people on your list. Check out our class schedule for some ideas.....starting with Becky Jacobson's Crazy Quilted Christmas Ornaments! This class starts early in November, so you'll have time to make several before Christmas. Make one up for a special quilting friend, or start a family tradition by giving one to each family every year. Imagine how much they will be treasured. Our Trip for 2 to Boston mini retreat right after Thanksgiving will yield two quilt tops in a weekend per team....(better line up your quilter now, though!) Other quick projects include our wool appliqué pin cushion or a punchneedle project. We have a FREE Pillowcase demo on December 13th at 11:30 am, after which you can stay and sew. You can finish several in an afternoon. These are completely done by machine....no hand work whatsoever! When you're in the shop check out Sandi's Paper Pieced Trivets/Placemats. She and Josie have been making a lot of these for gifts.....they are a great hand project to work on in the evening while watching television. They go together fast, use up scraps, and can be made to match any décor. What could be better?? If you can't make it in to the shop and would like to see what I'm talking about, send me an email and I'll email back a picture.....we can also send you the paper pieces you'd need to make your own. On Monday December 8th and Saturday December 13th at 10 am, we will be demonstrating the Accucut die cutting system in our classroom. This is a FREE demo just to let you know how it works and just how easy it is to cut out the most common quilt shapes in the most common quilt block sizes....squares, triangles, and rectangles....as well as common applique shapes such as leaves, flowers, stars, and hearts. You can also speed cut strips with this machine. You can cut up to ten layers of fabric at once! I recently cut up a lap sized Take 5 quilt in under ten minutes! We will start renting time out on the machine in January. This is a great way to cut up your scraps in compatible sizes, as well as charm squares and strips. Join us on the 8th or 13th and see what it's all about! Beginning in December, we will be renting out our Gammill Classic Plus longarm. In order to be allowed to rent the machine, you must take Karri's Beginning Longarm Quilting class. This is a private class in which you will learn how to load your quilt on the machine, how to thread it, and how to work from both sides of the machine. After you have "graduated" from the class, you will be able to rent time on the machine. The fee for rental will be $50/day. We will not rent hourly, or for half days. The rental day is 9:30 am to 4:30 pm. You must pay when you register, and money will not be refunded if you do not show up. Your quilt must be removed from the machine at the end of the day. If you are not done quilting, and if the room and the machine are available the next day, you may rent the machine for the next day and leave the quilt on overnight. You may want to consider renting the machine for two days at a time and bringing several tops to make best use of your time. If you suspect that you might not be able to finish your top in the time you have, be sure to talk to Karri about pin basting. Although it's normally a chore I'm happy to avoid when longarm quilting, it does allow you to take the quilt on and off the machine without the layers shifting. If you are interested in Karri's class or in renting time on the machine, give us a call to schedule....837-2399. Please make a note on your calendars that the shop will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and on December 26th. As we head into these next busy, busy weeks preparing for the holidays, be sure and take a little "mental health" break every so often in your sewing room and take a few stitches........ Happy quilting! Lynn

You can get several pillowcases done in one afternoon! These make wonderful Christmas presents for the kids on your list! Crazy Quilted Christmas Ornaments Saturday November 8 and Saturday November 22 10 am-3 pm Instructor: Becky Jacobson Fee $60 Have you ever wanted to try your hand at Crazy Quilting? Perhaps the thought of making a whole quilt is daunting.....so join us and learn the art of crazy quilting while making beautiful Christmas ornaments. Becky will provide the patterns, guide you through fabric choices and threads, and teach you the techniques she has developed over the years. You will be able to adapt these techniques to make pillows, placemats, clothing, or quilts. Stop into the shop to see her beautiful samples! Trip for 2 to Boston Mini Retreat Friday November 28 6-9 pm and Saturday November 29 9 am-4 pm Instructor: Karri Schaper Fee: $75 Attention hunting widows!! Grab a friend and a kit and join us for this mini-retreat! Although you may take this class by yourself, it will be lots of fun if you bring a friend...and the price is the same! One kit will make two lap size quilts. Our kits are made of beautiful batiks (you can view the samples in the shop), but this quilt would work up beautifully in any fabric. You will want to purchase your fabric ahead of time so you are ready to go on Friday evening. Remember, you get a discount on fabric, kits, and supplies purchased for your class, so be sure and let us know when you are shopping that your purchase is for the class! (This is also a good time to stock up on thread, needles, rotary blades, etc. while taking advantage of the discount!) You will work as a team, with one person sewing and one person pressing. By the end of the class, there's a good chance that your team will complete both quilt top interiors! You will just need borders and they'll be ready to quilt....just in time for Christmas! We will provide light breakfast foods, and lunch on Saturday. We will have coffee and tea available. As with all our retreats, we'd like each person to bring a snack to share. For those coming from far, the Timbers motel is just two doors away from us. They have been very accommodating to our customers at previous retreats. Their phone number is 406-837-6200. So many different patterns are available....primitive, holiday, and elegant florals to name a few. The great thing is, no pattern is off limits to beginners! So find a pattern you like and join this class! Jane will explain the different types of punchneedles out there and how they work and the different flosses and threads available. Your entire Cotton Theory project, whether a small candlemat or a king size quilt, is done on your home sewing machine....no hand work at all! Although the class fee includes a fabric kit for this project, you will learn how to cut out a Cotton Theory quilt...yes, it is different from what you are used to. In this class you will complete a candlemat, right down to the binding...done a la Betty Cotton, of course! Use the skills you learn in this class to create a full-size quilt! Cotton Theory Two-Season Tablerunner Saturday December 6 10 am-3 pm Instructor: Mo Harrah Fee: $25 Anyone who has taken the Intro to Cotton Theory class is ready for this class! The objective of this group is education and charitable endeavors. Please come and see what it's all about! At this meeting we will discuss an agenda and goals for next year. Please bring suggestions and ideas for what you'd like to see covered in these meetings. If you have a question or problem right now, by all means bring it up to the group! And, as always, we LOVE Show and Tell. No experience is necessary..... Graduates of this class will be able to rent time on our longarm (a Gammill Classic Plus). Please call Karri at the shop (837-2399) for available dates and times.
