Greetings!
We are all settling in after returning from International Quilt Market in Portland, where the azaleas and rhododendrons were in full bloom. Things were very hectic around here preparing for market, where we introduced sixteen new patterns. Although our booth was pretty busy, we were able to get away from it and look for new things for the shop. We expect the new items to start arriving soon, so stop by soon and often!! Our website is LIVE! This is a long time coming, and we are still working out some tiny bugs, but you can see all of our new designs there, at www.bigforkbaycottonco.com. We will be adding items weekly. Let us know what you think.... Thank you to all who supported our $5 fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Fund. We have raised $1,430 to date. In addition, you all saved over $5,400! A win-win situation! We are still selling the adorable aprons in the shop. They have been very popular. We have hand-picked coordinating fabrics that are bright and cheery. The entire cost of the aprons is donated to the fund. Wouldn't it be great to have a couple of these tucked away for a last-minute hostess gift, a birthday that comes up a bit too quickly, or a thank you to someone special? We are limited in how many we can produce, so don't wait too long! Our sincere thanks to Barb Brunson of Vanilla House designs for letting us use her pattern this way. There are two great local quilt shows in June....see details below. Lastly, please note that we will be closing at 4pm on Saturdays beginning June 7th. We will also be closed July 4th & 5th. Hope to see you soon! Lynn

Thirty Minute Shopping Bag
Over one million plastic bags are consumed per minute globally.....Think of the impact on that number if we all carried just one reusable shopping bag with us! This bag is sooo quick and easy! Consider making one for each family member! Fabric Requirements - One half yard of high quality fabric such as a batik, canvas, or barkcloth. This also works well with prequilted fabric. Cut this piece 18 inches by 40 inches - One piece of matching or contrast fabric, 6 inches by 20 inches for pocket - 3 yards webbing for handles Assembly Instructions To make handles, overlap ends of webbing 1 inch forming a large loop. Sew together well. To make the pocket, fold over the raw edges of the 6 X 20 inch piece of fabric, ¼ inch, wrong sides together, along the 6 inch ends. Fold again and topstitch. Lay the large piece of fabric flat on a table, right side up. Measure carefully to center the pocket piece on the bag piece. The pocket will be approximately 6 inches from each side and approximately 10 inches from each end. Pin or baste in place. Measure and draw a line 6 inches from the top of each end of the pocket piece. Stitch along this line. Lay the handles on the bag, covering up the raw edges of the pocket and continuing up to the top of the bag. Put the seam allowance of the handle in an inconspicuous place. Stitch down both sides of the handles, stopping two inches from the top of the bag. Fold bag, wrong sides together, forming piece 18 inches by 20 inches. Taking care to keep the handles free, sew up the each side with a slight ¼ inch seam allowance. Turn bag inside out and sew up sides again, using a slight ½ inch seam allowance. This will reinforce the seams and catch the raw edges to prevent unraveling. With wrong sides together, flatten the bottom of the bag so that one side seam lays straight down the center of the bottom. Measure in 2 ½ inches from the point and draw a line perpendicular to the side seam. Stitch along this line. Repeat for the other side. Trim the seam allowance to 1/8 inch. Turn bag inside out and stitch again with a ¼ inch seam allowance, catching the raw edges of the previous seams. Fold top edge of the bag to the inside 1 inch. Fold again and topstitch along the folded edge.

June Class Schedule
LONGARMS & LAUGHTER Sunday June 8 1-3 FEE Free! Everyone with an interest in longarm quilting is welcome to this guild meeting. The objective of this newly-formed guild is education and charitable endeavors. Please come and see what it's all about! This Sunday is also the Bigfork Piecemaker's Quilt Show (10-3) and the shop will be open from 11-3. Come spend the day in Bigfork! HAND QUILTING Saturday June 14 1-4 INSTRUCTOR Mary Sanchez FEE $30 (or $10 per hour) Although many of us turn to machine quilting because of its speed, there are those special tops that just call out for hand quilting. Mary keeps the tradition alive in our shop, but uses special ergonomic methods, a la Thimblelady, to prevent the repetitive motion injuries often associated with hand quilting. Whether you are brand new to hand quilting, or need to learn a new way to do it, spend some time with Mary. You'll be surprised how fast you can pick up this method. This class is charged "by the hour" at the rate of $10 per hour. You may only need two hours, but Mary has set aside three hours for this class. You will only pay for the time you need. KITCHEN PLACEMATS (COTTON THEORY) Wednesday June 18 10-4 INSTRUCTOR Mo Harrah FEE $35 (Book required...if you took our introductory class you have it...)
This is step 2 in your Cotton Theory education! You will build on the skills you learned in the introductory class. Fabric requirements will produce four placemats. You will complete one placemat, start to finish, in class. The rest will be completed on your own. We will have kits available, or you may choose your own fabrics. WILDLIFE APPLIQUE Saturday June 21 10-4 OR Thursday June 26 10-4 INSTRUCTOR OK Carol Rockwell FEE $30 plus pattern (kits available)
CHOOSE your favorite Toni Whitney design and let OK Carol guide you, step by step, towards creating your own beautiful art quilt. Come to class with your pattern pieces traced on fusible web, as this is the most time-consuming step. Carol will show you how to use the subtle shadings of the batik fabric to your best advantage, as well as how to "build" your design section by section. This is NOT a beginning fusible appliqué class. You MUST have experience with this method. We do have kits for these patterns, but they are extremely popular. Sometimes we have to wait quite a while for a specific batik fabric to come in. So, if you'd like a kit, PLEASE purchase it as soon as possible. CLOTH DOLL MAKING 101 Tuesday June 24 10-2 AND Tuesday July 1 10-2 INSTRUCTOR Carol Marie FEE $60 (includes required pattern, "Raggedy AMELIA") In this class you will learn the basics of doll-making: basic body construction, stuffing the doll, finishing the hair, painting the face and shoes, and embellishments. You will have homework in between sessions. You will go home from the second class with your own completed "Amelia" to enjoy or give away to someone special! Come in to the shop to see the adorable sample doll, as well as some of Carol Marie's other dolls. CUSTOM CLASS If you and a couple of friends have been looking for a particular class, let us know. We usually only need three people to make up a class. Give Lynn or Mo a call and we'll make it happen! OPEN SEWING We continue to offer open sewing on Mondays. We would love to have you join our group. You can get started any time after 10, and sew until 5. We have a very enjoyable group right now, and there's room for you, too! PLEASE be aware that you are not considered registered for a class until you have paid the class fee. At that time, we will provide you with a supply list for the class. If we have to cancel a class for any reason, we will refund the entire class fee. If you cancel, we will do our best to fill your spot. If we are able to do so, we will refund your class fee. REMEMBER, you receive a 10% discount on supplies purchased for your class, and a 10% discount on regular-priced purchases made on class day (excluding Cherrywood fabric and antique button jewelry). BE SURE AND REMIND US when you are making purchases for a class!!
