Hey Friend,
Christy Johnson
January is that time of year when we all reevaluate our lives and our goals for the upcoming year. Sometimes that can leave us feeling inadequate and discouraged, especially when we compare ourselves to others.

Comparison can be a distructive disease and, unfortunately, not many of us are immune. We have to be careful that we don't allow it to diminish us!
I hope my own story, Miracle Grow, brings fresh perspective on how to shake the comparison trap. If you want more insight, you may also enjoy The Cancer of Comparison.

Praying God grants all the desires of your heart for 2011 as you delight yourself in Him!

Peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of God.

the perfect family

I plastered on a Happy New Year smile as we rang the door bell.

It's not that I didn't like my husband's friends. It's just that they were so perfect. Everything about their girls-their sippy cups, ballerina outfits, and Veggie Tale videos-reminded me of the innocence my own daughter once embraced.   But those dreams met reality when Brittany moved out shortly after her 19th birthday. In her personal quest for freedom, she turned to drugs and alcohol. When Brittany was arrested for drug possession and later for a DUI, I couldn't help but wonder where I had failed.

As Katina opened the door, the aroma of black-eyed peas and cornbread offered a warm holiday welcome. "I hope we're not interrupting," I said. "We just wanted to stop by to say hello."

"Not at all. Come in!" insisted Katina as she gave us both a hug. "I'll get Terrance."

Terrance's six-foot nine-inch frame sauntered down the hallway.

"Hey big guy, happy New Year!" bellowed my husband John as he embraced Terrance. "How's my brother from another mother?"

"Just fine," grinned Terrance, smiling at the familiar wisecrack.

Aside from the obvious height difference, anyone could tell by looking at Terrance's black skin and my husband's blonde hair that they didn't belong at the same family reunion. But ever since  read the rest

Distressing is fun! Check out my latest repurposed decorating ideas for the spring.

I love redeeming something that was headed for the trash pile. Some call it "going green", but it reminds me of what my father does. I was destined for the biggest trash pile in the universe before Jesus redeemed and recreated my life!

Every time I create something it refreshes my soul. I think God intended it to. In Genesis 2 when God created trees, they served two purposes. Not only were they good for food, but they were pleasing to the eye. Proof that God created beauty and landscaping!

In the creation story in Genesis 1, one key element occurs six times: After God created something, he saw all that he made, and he decided it was very good. I do the same thing. After I complete an arrangement or a tablescape, I love to sit back, look at it and admire it!

And then I want to share pics with my friends! Vanity? No! I think it's affection and admiration. I hope you enjoy!
