Greetings!
Every time new clients sign up for training, they have left their comfort zone. For most, the realm of regular exercise and eating well is intimidating. They are scared they won't live up to their high hopes, that the exercises will be difficult and painful, and that the whole lifestyle change will require so much sacrifice that what they perceived as a vibrant life full of choices will quickly turn a hazy shade of gray. I hate to admit it, but as trainers who meet and serve many clients per year, we sometimes forget the courage it takes for a person to step out of old habits and enlist in something new. Last weekend served for me as a bold reminder. I attended a certification seminar for an intense form of exercise and training. The workouts we performed demanded strength and skills that were foreign to my "fit" body. It was downright scary. Throughout the weekend, my aching muscles cussed as I descended the stairs from classroom to workout room and my mind worried that I wouldn't stack up. I realized that this is how our new clients feel... sometimes for weeks, not just for a mere weekend. Suddenly my empathy for clients was renewed.
But I also felt that sense of accomplishment that comes from pushing the limits of your comfort zone into uncharted territory. Yes, the workouts were intimidating, but I did them anyway. I cast my fears aside and attacked the task at hand, knowing that it didn't matter as much if I measured up to others as it did proving to myself that I serve up my best effort -- no matter what. After each workout, when I finally caught my breath, quit shaking, and was reasonably certain that I had survived... I wanted more. Amazing how that sense of pride and kickin'-butt-and-takin'-names is addicting. Courage to exceed your comfort zone is the price for increased self esteem. Feeling like you're on top of the world is the payoff for the brave ones who make the climb.
And nobody understands that better than our clients and boot campers! Thank you for your courage to step out of your comfort zone!
We are proud of you, say We are proud of you...

But, as the sponsor of this event, we had to add our own twist! The 9-hole tournament will also include a "Whine & Nine" where participants can do obstacle courses and fun drills at each hole and win prizes! It will truly be the most fun you've ever had playing golf!

SPOTLIGHTING AN AMAZING BOOT CAMPER... Stacy Rist
|
|
Original home town: Born in Ft. Worth, moved to Granbury when I was 3.
Years in Granbury area: 37
How long have you been training with Shelby at Adventure Boot Camp? Since June 2007
Why did you decide to enlist in boot camp? What are your goals? I started so that I could keep up with my teenage sons. Also, diet alone was not keeping the weight I had lost off anymore.
What physical differences have you noticed since exercise became a regular part of your life? I just feel better & have a lot more energy. Also, my bad back rarely hurts anymore. My husband says that I look great!
What emotional differences have you noticed since you began putting your health as a priority? I think that I'm easier to get along with at home because I release my stress working out. My family might not agree.
How are you living your life differently now that you are in better shape? I don't sit on the sidelines & watch, I get out there and do.
What do you have the confidence to do now, that you never would have done before? I have run a couple of 5K races. In the past, I would have just walked a shorter race while the boys ran the 5K.
Who have you inspired to make a positive change in their life since you've made a positive change in yours? I don't know.
What are you the most proud of? I was a "pleasantly plump" kid and at 40 I'm in the best shape of my life!
