  • Why did you decide to begin training? What are your goals?

ALWAYS WANTED TO GET INTO A HABIT OF WORKING OUT - NOT LONG TILL I'M 40 AND THOUGHT IT WAS A GOOD TIME TO START.  PLUS I NEED TO BE ABLE TO KEEP WORKING LIKE I DO.  GOALS: TRY TO BASICALLY TONE-UP, LOOK FIT AND EAT BETTER ON A REGULAR BASIS.

  • What physical differences have you noticed since exercise became a regular part of your life?

MY ENERGY LEVEL IS ACTUALLY BETTER.  I FEEL STRONGER AT MY WORK (MASSAGE THERAPY). I'M IN AWE HOW MY BALANCE AND CORE HAVE IMPROVED - IT'S AWESOME!

  • What emotional differences have you noticed since you began putting your health as a priority?

I ENJOY WORKING OUT.  IT MAKES ME FEEL MORE CONFIDENT.  I DO IT FOR ME BECAUSE IT MAKES ME HAPPY, WHICH IN TURN IS GOOD FOR MY FAMILY AND EVERYONE ELSE.

  • How are you living your life differently now that you are in better shape?

SPREADING HAPPINESS IS EASIER.

 

  • Who have you inspired to make a positive change in their life since you've made a positive change in yours?

I WANT MY FAMILY TO EAT BETTER AND WANT TO STAY PHYSICALLY FIT. "WORKING OUT" HAS A WHOLE NEW CONCEPT TO ME NOW. AND I PREACH THAT TO MY CLIENTELE. EVERYONE HAS COMPLAINTS AND THINGS THEY WANT TO CHANGE IN THEIR LIVES, BUT IT ULTIMATELY STARTS WITHIN. WHEN SOMEONE TAKES PRIDE IN THEMSELVES, WHICH IS THE FIRST START, THE BALANCE, THE CORE -  IT ALL STARTS TO FALL INTO PLACE.  YOU JUST HAVE TO WANT IT FOR YOURSELF. AND THEN IT'S EASY TO SPREAD THAT TO OTHERS.

  • What are you the most proud of?

SHELBY AND HER STAFF--THEY ARE AWESOME AT WHAT THEY DO AND THEY ENJOY IT.  SHELBY MURPHY TRAINING HAS MADE ME A BETTER PERSON FOR ME AND MY FAMILY.  THANKS!

Shelby's Corner...

Like much of the rest of this nation, I've been reading Eckhart Tolle's "A New Earth." A message that resonates within the book (similar to his last book, "The Power of Now")
is that all of life happens in the moment. If you are distracted by regrets or glories in your past, or constantly planning or worrying about your future, you miss out on life... because you've missed out on "now."
 
I've always embraced this idea, but like many, let fretting or planning get in my way. I forget how beautiful life is the moment. Despite my worries, everything is almost always nearly perfect this very second. My heart is beating; I am breathing clearly; my brain churns out fun thoughts and ideas; my muscles are strong, slightly fatigued, but good; my children are happy and healthy and with me; my husband is amazing and such a gift; my business is doing well; opportunity abounds; and I live in a great little town in the most wonderful country ever created. This moment is truly delicious! Is every detail of my life perfect? Of course not. But right now, at 4:18 on Thursday, everything is good.
 
So once again, I have vowed to be more present, regardless of the situation. When I lead boot camp, I try to be totally tuned into the grunts and the giggles; when I train a client, I try to give her/him my full attention and not only watch form, but appreciate the energy and vitality of each individual; when I workout, I try to listen to what my body has to say right then and how each exercise makes my muscles feel; and when I'm away from work, I try to focus completely on my fast-growing family. Even when I'm going to sleep, I focus on how cool and comfortable my sheets are and how good it feels to hold my tired body motionless. In focusing on the moment, my life has become infinitely richer, more colorful, more clear.
 
I encourage you to focus on each moment of your life. Be one with your workouts, don't try to distract yourself through TV, music, or chatter. (This is one reason we don't have TVs over the cardio equipment!)Listen to your body. Admire your spouse. Love your children. Notice details. Appreciate syncronicities. Use your five senses. Be present.
 
And only then will you truly be alive.
