Dear American Clay Community,
This past week, I was working with my 5 year old with our material. If you want to have some fun, give a 5 year old a trowel and see what they do (make sure you are not attached to the project outcome, as they tend to do what they want). After our project the next day he came to me and asked, "Dad, where is my clayer?" Not quite sure what he was talking about, I prodded inquisitively (basically I said "I have no idea what you are talking about!") He was completely frustrated with my clear lack of the fundamentals of the English language, and said, his voice escalating, "you know, my 'clayer'!" Still in a complete fog of understanding, I took on a blank look and shrugged. He said--rather non-plussed at my parental-stupidity: "Duh!, Dad! That tool that I used to put up the plaster!" I think I laughed for a good few moments, and said "you mean the trowel?". "No. Dad! It's a Clayer!"
So for those of you out there that ever wondered what that tool is used to apply American Clay, you now know, it is a "Clayer".
Enjoy the month, as projects shape-up and more of you use your "Clayer" to apply our fun and child appropriate products.

We used 'hay' from her own bails, she wanted lots of it 'pressed in' and 'sticking out' of her walls. I also inlaid turquoise pieces and sterling beads that she brought back from Tibet to create a shaman figure.

Question of the Month:
If you've ever called our main office in Albuquerque, NM then chances are you've talked to Ilene. She has been American Clay's receptionist since September 6th, 2005, so you can imagine she gets some excellent questions from our customers. Here are the September question of the month:
"Is it possibly to do something about that old wallpapered wall? Can you put American Clay right over that wallpaper? "

Maintenance Tip: To Seal or Not to Seal your American Clay Wall
here are a few places where sealing an American Clay plaster wall is a very good idea; for instance, if you do not have a backsplash behind a sink area in the kitchen or bathroom. It is also a good idea to seal if you do not have baseboard at the floor level, sealing will keep the walls safe from washing or scuffs. In this video, American Clay's color specialist, Carrie Williar, shares a personal example of when she opted to seal a wall in her own home, and demonstrates how she did it.
