Dear American Clay Community,
What is American Clay with a twist of lime? Well it's not a Margarita, but it's more than you would expect.
American Clay's Lime Putty is now available to 'gauge' our plasters and to create a limewash. In this month's newsletter we are featuring our Lime Putty with a few videos and articles explaining our newest addition to our line of products.
We are grateful to each of you
for your continued support of American Clay's products and commitment
to the future of our planet.

American Clay Introduces US made Lime Putty
![](http://ih.constantcontact.com/fs003/1101817506789/img/581.jpg?a=1102927737835) American Clay Enterprises kicks off 2010 with a major addition to their line of natural, sustainable and healthy plasters for interior walls and ceilings. The company is introducing their own Lime Putty. This lime putty can be used for gauging, or adding to, American Clay's Earth Plasters and also mixed to make limewash. One primary element that makes the American Clay lime products uniquely more sustainable--and LEED friendly--than most lime putty used in the U.S., is that the lime is U.S. sourced. Based on the successful preview at Greenbuild International Expo in November, builders and architects are eager for the products which are both a natural evolution for the line, and an example of American Clay's consistent response to its users' needs. Both products are available as of this month.

Lime Putty, from CEO Croft Elsaesser:
The number of questions generated by our lime putty release is exciting. Some clarifications:
The lime putty is slaked from a "high calcium" calcium oxide here in Albuquerque, NM. This is not a Dolomitic lime.
The current buckets that are available from American Clay have aged for at least 12 months. We have small batches of putty that have been aged 36 months, but those will remain in-house for continued testing. We have additional putty that is aging so that we can continue to provide a quality putty for a lime-wash, and for gauging into our earth plasters.
This is NOT a lime plaster that is going to take the place of "venetian plasters" on the market. It is not blended with aggregates, and other materials to make it applicable in this way. The introduction of the putty is to provide a material that is only putty: no additional extenders, or acrylics. This can be used to make a lime-wash, and to gauge into our clay plasters. Artisans that are using putty to make mortars or plasters could use the putty in this way, but it is only their knowledge and expertise that will make this viable, and American Clay is only selling the putty in one gallon buckets at this time.

Catholic Charities of Tulsa
American Clay has had the opportunity to participate on some amazing projects. From Disney Land to St. Thomas, VI, we've been able to impact spaces and people's lives. But sometimes, a project comes along that makes us truly proud.
Catholic Charities of Tulsa began planning a consolidation of all their services and locations to one campus and American Clay was part of that plan. A beautiful on-site chapel was specified with American Clay, as well as some of the hallways.
Green Country Interiors sent one of their lead artisans to be trained in American Clay application about a year ago, so that they would be ready to take on the challenge. What a choice they made! Monte Hess has done an amazing job of guiding his team on the Catholic Charities project. The Chapel is a Porcelina finish in Nantucket Sand, with soft movement in the clay and a lexan trowel burnish, everyone has been thrilled with the results.

The Bright Side of Things by Jeremy Mistretta
In the economic downturn, I am finding that most folks are focusing on the negative. This mantra will only bring us further and further into despair. It's important to look on the bright side of things! I just finished a pretty small job in Downtown Bozeman (I had actually completed it years ago, but a remodel was done and it needed some attention and repair). I found it amazing that with a little attention and knowledge, I was able to bring the walls back to "better-than-before" status. I was very pleased with the end result, and the client was ecstatic! Thanks so much for manufacturing a great product. Keep up the good work. It is good folks like us that will triumph through these hard times and be the leaders in the next economic era. GREEN TIPS OF THE MONTH
- Turn off the bathroom faucet! Don't let the water run while you're brushing your teeth or shaving. You can waste 3 to 5 gallons per minute or as much as 20,000 gallons per year.
