Two More Success Stories

Kenneth and Amanda came to TCAA in June after receiving emergency rental assistance in order to avoid being evicted from their residence.  They were still struggling and came back to TCAA to seek shelter.  They received lodging in IHELP even though they were discouraged about job prospects in this economy they met with TCAA's Case Manager, Patrick Winters.  Patrick development a case management plan for both of them.   Patrick encouraged Kenneth to venture into other areas of employment due to being laid off at his previous job.  Patrick prepared his resume, provided job leads, computer training and job coaching.  Kenneth landed a position with a cleaning company at Sky Harbor Airport.  Kenneth has pursued further help with budgeting and learning to save money.  Kenneth and Amanda stayed in the IHELP program for about a month and a half.  He was able to save enough to move into an apartment, put down an electrical deposit as well as a pet deposit thus allowing their homeless cat to live with them.  Furnishing hope provided Kenneth and Amanda a couch, TV, bed, kitchen items and a kitchen table.

Amanda continues coming to the computer lab searching for job leads, and has had two interviews.  She has received clothing from Dress for Success (a non-profit organization for women that assists with clothing for interviews).

"The Mayor's Run ~ Inspiration on the Run"

Charles

Charles & Judy Ramos ~

"2011 Mayor's Run"

Charles Hursh has been running marathons for the last several years. This was his first year running in "The Mayor's Run" with TEAM TCAA.  Fortunately Erin Sparks asked Charles to join TEAM TCAA, and he has been a strong advocate for the Mayor's run ever since.

TEAM TCAA's Mayor's Run personal spokesman and all around encourager. Charles has great advice for less experienced marathoners and he's always inviting others to join the team.  Charles completed the marathon in 3:42 time and raised over $2,300 for the Tempe Community Action Agency's Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program (IHELP)!   When asked if the Mayor's run was instrumental in helping him get healthy he stated, "I had already embarked on a goal of becoming healthier, but what it did do is give a purpose for my running.  It was great to be able to give back using something I enjoy, namely running."  Way to go Charles!!  For "The Mayor's Run"/PF Chang's Arizona Rock 'N' Roll marathon registration information contact Kathy!
