Emergency Heat Relief

We are continuing to watch the weather throughout the month of August for Emergency Heat Days.  We greatly appreciate those who have participated in hosting and providing extra meals in order to keep our IHELP clients out of these extreme weather conditions  We will keep you posted through special newsletters as needed.  Thanks again for your participation throughout the summer!

Another Success Story

The success stories continue as clients are moving out of the IHELP program.  There are a number of clients that have moved on recently.  Sam Sumner just received a letter from a former IHELP client who had previously been in the IHELP program for a few weeks before moving onto the East Valley Men's Shelter.  Allen wrote Sam a letter to thank him for his insight and said that it was a beautiful day for him the day he got out of the men's center.  Allen expressed how hard it was to live on the streets, and that he didn't want to end up in prison. He wanted a much better life for himself.  Allen has moved out of state, and things are going much better for him. One may never know the power of the positive things one says or does, and how it might affect one of our IHELP participants.

"The Mayor's Run ~ Inspiration on the Run"

Charles

Charles & Judy Ramos ~

"2011 Mayor's Run"

Charles Hursh has been running marathons for the last several years. This was his first year running in "The Mayor's Run" with TEAM TCAA.  Fortunately Erin Sparks asked Charles to join TEAM TCAA, and he has been a strong advocate for the Mayor's run ever since.

TEAM TCAA's Mayor's Run personal spokesman and all around encourager. Charles has great advice for less experienced marathoners and he's always inviting others to join the team.  Charles completed the marathon in 3:42 time and raised over $2,300 for the Tempe Community Action Agency's Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program (IHELP)!   When asked if the Mayor's run was instrumental in helping him get healthy he stated, "I had already embarked on a goal of becoming healthier, but what it did do is give a purpose for my running.  It was great to be able to give back using something I enjoy, namely running."  Way to go Charles!!  For "The Mayor's Run"/PF Chang's Arizona Rock 'N' Roll marathon registration information contact Kathy!

IHELP NEEDS

There are many opportunities available to serve IHELP.  We are still in need of the following help:

Toothpaste

Deodorant (full size please)

*WATER DRIVES: (with the weather heating up IHELP guests are in need of water to keep hydrated).

*Coordinate a Towel or Sheet Drive - so our clients can keep up their hygiene and keep their employment.

*Wash sheets for IHELP Clients - did you know when Communities/churches don't wash their own sheets IHELP Staff wash them? The IHELP Manager, the IHELP Coordinator, or the Communications Coordinator will wash the sheets.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact IHELP.

IHELP BUFFALO EXCHANGE RECIPIENT

Don't forget to shop Buffalo Exchange, forego receiving the shopping bag and drop your token in the TCAA IHELP bucket!  Thanks Buffalo Exchange for designating IHELP as a recipient of these funds!  We appreciate your commitment to the community and the environment.
