THANKS FOR THE HEAT RELIEF!

Many thanks go out to those individuals and communities that have already stepped up to help provide additional space for shelter and extra food for these unbearably hot summer days - you are saving lives!  We at Tempe Community Action Agency appreciate your willingness make this extra committment.  Clients/guests appreciate being out of the heat.

IHELP NEEDS

There are many opportunities available to serve IHELP.  We are still in need of the following help:

Toothpaste

Deodorant (full size please)

*WATER DRIVES: (with the weather heating up IHELP guests are in need of water to keep hydrated).

*Coordinate a Towel or Sheet Drive - so our clients can keep up their hygiene and keep their employment.

*Wash sheets for IHELP Clients - did you know when Communities/churches don't wash their own sheets IHELP Staff wash them? The IHELP Manager, the IHELP Coordinator, or the Communications Coordinator will wash the sheets.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact IHELP.

The 2011 Mayor's RunEXERCISE AND FUND RAISE FOR IHELP

Join in the fun and run/walk with "TEAM TCAA" in the "Mayor's Run"/PF Chang's Rock 'N' Roll Arizona Marathon and Half Marathon. Many on "TEAM TCAA" walked the half marathon together last year.  This is a great opportunity to raise money to support IHELP.  Early Registration starts now. Official training starts in September 10th.  The Mayor has selected Team TCAA as one of many non-profit charities to join in his quest to help people get in shape while raising money for local non-profit organizations.  For more information contact Kathy Estrada

RENT/UTILITY CHANGES & FOOD RESOURCE LISTING

Effective July 5, 2011 the Utility Assistance process will change.  No appointments will be made by telephone.  For more information.   (Tempe and Foundation Hill Residents call 480-350-5880 for more information)

Need help finding food resources in Tempe?  Here is a great Food Resources Listing you can use if you or someone you know needs assistance. Please call before going to verify hours and food supply.  Residents must bring a photo ID and proof of being a Tempe resident (a piece of mail with address matching ID).

CASE MANAGEMENT CORNER ~ SUCCESS STORY

Jonathan came to IHELP after he was evicted from his apartment back in April.  He suddenly found himself homeless in Tempe after losing his position at a local grocery store. Jonathan met with Patrick his case manager and had his resume prepared for his job search. He also attended TCAA's Maricopa Workforce Access Points open computer lab in order to apply for positions online. Patrick referred Jonathan to an open job position, and after Sam helped Jonathan acquire the proper attire for interviewing Jonathan landed the job!  He was given a few small items to assist him; a pair of black dress shoes and interview clothes that had been donated to TCAA. Jonathan was also provided nightly meals, shelter and a few bus passes in order to work at his new place of employment. Jonathan saved up three pay checks, found his own apartment and transitioned back into the lifestyle that he was accustomed too. Thanks Jonathan for being an inspiration to us all.  You've done a great job in showing others how the IHELP program really works! .
