Many times IHELP clients are in need of new shoes, and nice clothing when they start a new job. If you have nice men's or women's dress clothes that you would like to donate, shoe shine kits, or non-slip black shoes clients in the food industry can wear, please contact IHELP.Men's suit

Many thanks to  Barbara McCullough and St. Augustine's for your continuous donations of valuable clothing to IHELP.  Case Manager Patrick Winters and IHELP Manager Sam Sumner work at helping clients find the right clothing for their new employment, or for job interviews.  Your donations help clients enter back into the workforce and are greatly appreciated.

Mayor at the finish lineEXERCISE AND FUND RAISE FOR IHELP

Join in the fun and run/walk with "TEAM TCAA" in the "Mayor's Run"/PF Chang's Rock 'N' Roll Arizona Marathon and Half Marathon. Many on "TEAM TCAA" walked the half marathon together last year.  This is a great opportunity to raise money to support IHELP.  Early Registration starts now.  Sign up by June 15th to raise even more money for IHELP.  Official training starts in September.  The Mayor has selected Team TCAA as one of many non-profit charities to join in his quest to help people get in shape while raising money for local non-profit organizations.  For more information contact Kathy Estrada

CASE MANAGEMENT CORNER ~ SUCCESS STORIES

Andrew came to TCAA with only the clothes on his back and the few items he could carry, since he had been evicted from his apartment.  He was applying for a position at the VA, which didn't come through due to a hiring freeze.  He was very eager to get back on his feet, and came to the IHELP Case Manager, Patrick Winters, for assistance.  Patrick prepared a resume, cover letter, and assisted him in his job search. Andrew stored his personal items at the Tempe Salvation Army during the day while he continued to look for work. Andrew came in two days later and stated that he had received a part-time position at a local security office. TCAA provided Andrew with a monthly bus pass as well as shelter and food in IHELP while he continued working and saving money to make his transition. After 15 days the company that he worked for assisted him with obtaining his unarmed security license and then he was able to get a $2.00 HR raise. Andrew continued to look for full-time work and save money while in IHELP.  A few weeks later, the VA lifted the hiring freeze and offered Andrew a full time position as a janitor at the Phoenix facility. Having saved all of his money while staying in IHELP, he was able to locate a trailer for sale, purchased the trailer and ended his homelessness. We still get calls from Andrew checking in and telling us how well he has been doing since this had all happened. With a little support, dedication, drive and determination paid off for him.  Everyone who supports IHELP should be congratulated for helping Andrew get back on his feet.

IHELP RECIPIENT FOR BUFFALO EXCHANGE

IHELP has been chosen by Buffalo Exchange as a recipient in their Token's for Bags Program.  This program has generated nearly $399,000 for hundreds of Nonprofits since 1994, saving 8 million bags.  Shoppers are encouraged to accept a token instead of a bag for purchases.  For every token substituted for a bag Buffalo Exchange donates five cents to one of the three featured charities the customer chooses.  Please remember the environment and IHELP when you shop at Buffalo Exchange. Thank you for your supporting an environmentally friendly and community minded store.  Your support is appreciated!

IHELP VOLUNTEER EXPERIENCES

Do you have an experience that has impacted your life from working with IHELP?  If so, we'd like to hear about it.  TCAA/IHELP is in the process of compiling these stories.  If you have something you would like to share, please email Kathy Estrada so she can write an article for the newsletter.   Please note:  Our policy is to use a pseudonym names as we would never want to jeopardize our clients success.  We are committed to their continued success even after they leave the IHELP program.  Thank you for sharing!

IHELP OPPORTUNITIES

There are many opportunities available to serve IHELP.  We are still in need of the following help:

*Coordinate a Water Drive (with the weather heating up IHELP guests are in need of water to keep hydrated).

*Wash sheets for IHELP Clients - did you know when Communities/churches don't wash their own sheets IHELP Staff wash them? Either the IHELP Manager, the IHELP Coordinator, or the Communications Coordinator will wash the sheets.  If you are interested in helping out, please contact IHELP.

*Coordinate a Towel or Sheet Drive, so our clients can keep up their hygiene and keep their employment.
