10th Annual Empty Bowls Event

Empty Bowls Event

Empty Bowls is an event held annually in Tempe to benefit the Tempe Community Action Agency and United Food Bank to help fight hunger in the Tempe area. On Friday, Feb. 25 and Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011 you can purchase a handmade bowl to help feed the hungry.

The bowls, made by local high school & elementary students, their teachers and volunteers, will be available for a donation of $10 and includes a soup lunch from Whole Foods Market in Tempe.

The Friday, Feb. 25 event will be held at Sixth Street Park and the Saturday, Feb. 26 will be held at the Tempe Library Complex, 3500 S. Rural Rd., between the Tempe Public Library and the Vihel Center. They will be open from 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. both days.

Bring your friends on Friday and enjoy entertainment by Walt

Richardson, and Saturday by Randy Olson and Friends.

The Empty Bowls Committee would like to extend a special thanks to our sponsors:  The City of Tempe, The City of Tempe Cultural Services Ceramics Program, Marjon Ceramics, Emerson, Laguna Clay Company, Beyond Graphix, Tempe Elementary School District, Tempe Union High School District, Walt Richardson, Randy Olson & Friends, and Whole Foods Market
Meet Patrick Winters

Patrick Winters was briefly introduced as TCAA/IHELP's new Case Manager in a previous newsletter.  However, we would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little more about him.  Patrick has a very extensive background in management.  He has been a regional manager for a Fortune 500 company, manager of Walgreen's and Albertson's and several large packaging companies in the valley.  Patrick worked as a Transitional Manager at Crossroads, Inc. pursuing his interest in helping those with addiction and recovery.  He worked on the clinical side of recovery at Community Bridges a detox facility.  There he worked with an array of people, mostly homeless. He came to us from St. Joseph the Worker where he worked with those with alcohol addiction and used his management experience to be a job developer for low income individuals.  Patrick came to TCAA because he was interested in doing more extensive Case Management.  Patrick has been trained as a Workforce Connection Access Point Administrator.  TCAA will be holding Community  workforce AccessPoint connection classes in one of the classrooms in the Escalante Center starting in February.  TCAA is excited for Patrick to be here, we know because of his previous experience enables him to provide the highest level of Case Management to his clients.  Patrick already has over 40 clients working with him in Case Management.  Welcome Patrick!

SHEETS FOR THE HOMELESS

Spring is just around the corner, just in time for spring cleaning!  IHELP is in need of sheets.  Please consider donating new or gently used sheets, or doing a sheet drive in your community for the IHELP program.  Donations can be dropped off at Tempe Community Action Agency.

WATER DRIVES

The weather will soon be warming up and with that comes the need for more water for our IHELP program.  Albertson's is having a sale for $1.99 this week for a case of 24 bottles.  Donations can be dropped off at Tempe Community Action Agency's Food Pantry.  Thank you so much for your donations!

IHELP CALENDAR

The 2011 IHELP Calendar is online.  Please take the time to peruse the entire year to verifying that all the dates your community has committed to are correct.   If there are any changes, please notify Sam as soon as possible.
