TOY DRIVES NEEDED!
TCAA, IKEA Tempe and our community friends are gearing up for the Holiday Toy Shoppe.  Toy Drives are needed to make this event a success!  Last year over 4,000 toys and gift cards were distributed benefiting 216 families, 612 children (between the ages of 0-16), as well as 180 seniors / disabled individuals. To start a toy drive, please contact Kathy at 480-350-5884.  The "shoppe" opens on Dec. 14th. Thank you to the Piper Foundation for supporting needed items for our homeless guests in the IHELP program!

TCAA's "Cooking on a Budget" Nutritious Cooking Series

Cooking on a budget was a 3 week nutritious cooking pilot program that started in May, 2010.  The purpose of the class was to teach local community members to use their resources more effectively by providing cooking, nutrition, and food budgeting skills for those struggling to feed their families.  This bilingual class enables students to walk away with the necessary skills to make healthy and economical food choices.  Meetings are held on Tuesdays at the Escalante Center from 6-8PM. Next Class dates:

Nutritious Cooking Class II:  November 22, 29 & December 6

Dave Tally Gives ASU Student a Reason to Give Thanks

Dave Tally, a monitor in Tempe Community Action Agency's Interfaith Homeless Emergency Lodging Program (IHELP), has been inundated with media attention since finding a backpack filled $3,300 and a computer. ASU Student Bryan Belanger who lost the backpack is very thankful for Dave Tally's honesty. TCAA offices have been filled with the hussle and bustle of media attention and outpouring of people wanting to help Dave.  When Dave found the backpack, Sam Sumner, IHELP Manager encouraged Dave to bring it in to the TCAA's offices so they could turn it in to the police or try to locate the owner.  Read the rest of this amazing story at AZcentral.comOn November 19, 2010, Dave was Diane Sawyer's "Person of the Week" on ABC World News.   For ways to give visit TCAA's website.

Guidestar Food/Shelter Campaign

Rate TCAA'S Programs

Guidestar and Great Nonprofits are teaming up to rate nonprofit programs in certain program areas.  The link below is to provide comments for TCAA's food and shelter programs.  These can include the Food Pantry, Home Delivered Meals, and Congregate Meals as well as IHELP.  Guidestar is where our financial information is posted to donors and provides accountability for the agency.  Please post your comments or reviews on this site.  If TCAA receives 10 positive reviews by November 30, we will be included on the Top Rated Food & Shelter for Nonprofits List, and receive more exposure and to donors and volunteers in the media ad through our campaign partners during the holiday season.
