First Crush09Thank you for making the First Crush Charity Gala a SUCCESS!

 Thank you for supporting and attending the First Crush Charity Gala this year! Because of your generous support, Tempe Community Action Agency raised an incredible $50,000 for our programs that serve children, the elderly, homeless and working-poor residents.  The event has grown from a $2,000 fundraising event to more than $50,000 event in just a six-year period and that is due to your support!  We had an incredible turnout with 346 in attendance and an amazing silent auction that generated more than $9,500 this year!  We are grateful to everyone who has made this event one of the premier charity events in the Valley. Thank you to all of our sponsors.
 2009 Holiday Toy Shoppe
 We are hard at work on the 5th annual Holiday Toy Shoppe, and we need your support.

Here are a few suggestions of ways you might help:

 

  • Purchase and donate (unwrapped) toys for children ages   0 - 15 years.
  • Donate money or gift cards-this lets us fill-in age gaps of donated toys and "hard to buy for" teens.
  • Arrange a toy drive at your place of employment, or civic organization.  
  • Donate gift wrap 
  • Take your kids out to help you shop for toys.  Tell them to find things they think another child would like to receive as a gift.
  • Donate items for Senior Citizens like gift cards, slippers, games and sundries.
  • Volunteer to help parents shop and gift wrap the toys for their children.

  • December 10 - 12, 2009, Toys delivered to IKEA-Tempe
  • December 14, 2009 at 7:00 pm, Community Appreciation and Volunteer Training at IKEA-Tempe
  • December 15 - 17, 2009, Toys distributed

Working Poor Tax Credit
 

Don't forget that the cut off date for your 2009 Working Poor Tax Credit is Dec. 31, 2009.
 
How to Participate: Married couples filing jointly can donate a maximum credit up to $400. Taxpayers filing as single and head of household can donate a maximum credit up to $200.
 
TCAA will send you a receipt for your taxes. Donations can be made online by clicking our "Donate Now" button.

The law has been changed to remove the baseline year stipulation, so it's as easy as 1-2-3!  
 
Get double credit - you can also donate to your favorite school by donating to the school tax credit.  
Fry's Bringing Hope to the Table Grant
TCAA would like to thank Fry's Food Stores and their Bringing Hope to the Table campaign for providing the TCAA food pantry with a check for $5,000. 
 
These funds will go to the purchase of a new refrigerator and freezer to support the growing demand for space to accommodate the increase in fresh produce, dairy, and meat product. This past year, the TCAA food pantry distributed 8,318 food boxes to 3,366 unduplicated families, a 23% increase from last year.
