TCAA's Health Start hosts a Baby Shower!

On Saturday, March 28th, HealthStart Baby Showerthe Las Noches Women's Club hosted the 1st Health Start Baby Shower event at Tempe Community Action Agency. The guest list included expectant mothers and new mothers who have attended Health Start classes on topics including; nutrition, brain development, self-esteem, depression, and accessing health insurance benefits.

Celene Post and 8 other members of the Las Noches Women's Club provided food, drinks, 6-7 baby outfits for each child/soon to be born infant, diapers, baby wipes, lotions, shampoos, baby oil and more. The women's club brought games to play with prizes.

The mothers who participated were touched with the generosity of these women and grateful for all their effort including their gift of time. The Health Start moms thanked the volunteers from Las Noches Women's Club and the TCAA Health Start staff with thank you cards including family photos and expressions of their appreciation for the wonderful event. It was a very special day for everyone involved.

Volunteer Appreciation Month

April is Volunteer Appreciation Month and Tempe Community Action Agency wants to acknowledge the wonderful impact our volunteers have on TCAA's programming and clients. Volunteers are critical in fulfilling the mission of TCAA.   In FY2008, approximately 380 volunteers contributed 24,995 hours to the agency with an in-kind value of $469,156.

These volunteers fill a vital role contributing their time, energy, and expertise to a variety of direct services including; packing or delivering Home-Delivered meals; serving meals at our five Senior Centers; sorting and distributing food bags; helping with our Holiday Toy Shoppe; contributing to the I-HELP meal program; or organizing a special event for our Health Start mothers.  All the volunteers at TCAA have a unique and greatly appreciated role in our organization.

Thanks to those in the community who give their time and talent that contributes to the success of TCAA programs.  For more information on volunteer opportunities visit www.tempeaction.org.
