Greetings!
Happy Holidays! We have been silent for a while on the eNews front, but we are back at it. It has been an interesting year to say the least - got any good stories? - email us and let us know.
With all the ups and downs the past year has presented, I can't help but feel lucky and blessed. I am grateful personally for my family and professionally for the amazing clients, employees, partners, and friends that have made Sentient Services a success - for 6 years! That's right, in October of 2009 we turned 6 years old.
I would like to personally thank you for all the opportunities you have given me and Sentient Services. As part of that "thank you" and continuing with our mission of doing good and giving back - we are supporting two amazing charities this year - charity: water and LifeWorks. Your support has made this possible, thank you!
Please read below for more information on these charities and on some recent Sentient Services news.
The entire Sentient Services team is here to be of service, please let me know how we can help you in the coming year with your market research and usability needs.
Wishing you and yours peace and happiness throughout the year,
Paul Janowitz CEO and Founder Sentient Services Market Research + User Experience + Information Design

People need water to live. Happy Holidays come after that.
We are going to help some of the 1 billion people that don't have either. As charity: water states: " One billion people on the planet don't have access to clean drinking water. That's one in six of us. charity: water is a non-profit organization bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing nations. 100% of public donations directly fund water projects." Thanks to your support of Sentient Services, we will be providing 25 children with clean drinking water for the next 20 years of their life! This is a huge opportunity for them and for all of us to make a life-changing difference with small acts of kindness. |
LifeWorks is a special organization for us.They are right in our backyard - Austin, TX - and do amazing work with youth and families. We have supported LifeWorks since the start of Sentient Services, and this year will be no exception. We will be providing funding to help support their child and teenage services. LifeWorks provides critical housing and services to many youth and young families that have nowhere else to turn. See more of their great work on the site - LifeWorksweb.org. |

World Usability Day
Our own Julie Lowe - Director of Usability here at Sentient and President of the Austin Chapter of the Usability Professionals Association (Austin UPA) helped organize an event in Austin for World Usability Day in November.
In the spirit of the theme
"Designing for a Sustainable World", Austin UPA hosted a panel discussion
exploring user-centered design and sustainable design. John Umphress of
Austin Energy Green Building shared with the group how buildings need to be
designed from the inside out; buildings designed first to have a beautiful
exterior often are not functional inside - where the occupants are! Also
on the panel was Brian Lasseter who shared his adventures in converting a
Saturn into a fully electric car, installing solar panels on his house and the
benefits of LEDs.
World Usability Day was founded in 2005 an initiative of the Usability
Professionals' Association to raise awareness of usability research,
development and practice.

Let's Talk
We have been busy this year doing eye tracking and usability around the globe (we went to China, Japan, Hong Kong, France, UK...), and doing a ton of traditional market research as well (focus groups, web surveys, product roadmap research, creative and ad testing...).
Give us a call - we are always happy to just chat about methodology, ideas and research. It is what we do and love!
