Gasketed fireplace doors required!
As of March 9, 2011 Michigan has adopted the 2009 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) guidelines.
This states that all newly constructed fireplaces be fitted with "gasketed" air sealed doors.

It should be noted that, due to safety issues, factory built zero clearance fireplaces are excluded from this requirement.

We've not yet seen this code enforced locally, but in response, we now offer gasketed doors in both stock sizes and custom arches........ bifold or cabinet styles....Upcharge is $150.00
.... this is just the beginning.... In addition to the battering the hearth industry has taken via the economy and in particular the housing industry, we are now faced with federal regulations in the works from both the EPA and the DOE that threaten the future of our industry. Based on the current wording of the DOE Energy Conservation Standards, all decorative gas fireplaces (including all vented gas logs) would be eliminated!! |
