Art in the Orchard

About four weeks into Art in the Orchard, we can happily say that this sculptural event is a great success. Several hundred people attended the opening on August 13 and a few hundred visitors have come each week since, appreciative of not only the diversity and creativity of the art on display but also of how beautiful this part of Easthampton is. Thanks to the vision of those who fought to preserve this agricultural land and to the commitment of the farm owners, Park Hill Road is a little country gem just a few minutes of downtown.

Did you know that you can vote for your favorite sculpture? Art in the Orchard wants to keep one of them on the orchard and has set up a voting/donation table by the farm stand. Your donation allows you to cast a vote for your favorite sculpture and the money collected will go towards the purchase of the "people's choice". If the funds raised will not match the price of the favorite sculpture, Art in the Orchard will acquire a different piece. According to the latest vote count, ZAG is the favorite so far. It is also the largest both in size and price so if you really want ZAG to stay on Park Hill Orchard you're going to have to come often and vote each time. And tell all your friends, neighbors, aunts and uncles, colleagues and Facebook friends to come and vote too!

As a reminder Art in the Orchard is open daily from sunrise to sunset, except for the

Full Moon Sculpture Walk

happening this coming Sunday September 11 from 7:30 pm. The weather forecast looks good so far: partly sunny during the day, some clouds possibly in the way at night, so bring a lantern or flashlight with you just in case, the sculpture trail will not be lit except by the moon.

After the walk, stay and mingle by the gazebo where hot cider and wine will be served.

Other events to be announced soon, stay tuned and visit the Art in the Orchard Facebook page or the Park Hill Orchard website, links on the left column.

Just like Art in the Orchard is putting "culture in agriculture", as Russell Braen likes to say, Mary Nelen is blending the two and uses art to convey her message about local food. Nelen, author of the Valley Locavore and contributing writer of Edible Pioneer Valley, is the Elusie Gallery's next exhibitor:

This week marked another milestone for Eastmont Custom Framing: we entered our 10000th order!

This order was placed by Eileen Corbeil of

White Square Fine Books & Art.

Thank you Eileen and all who have placed the other

9999 orders.

That's another reason why this newsletter is yet again without silly editorial: we're too busy framing!
