Can't tell...yet!

This is the first part of our April Newsletter. We had to split this edition in two because some of the informations we wanted to share with you had to come out now, while we were strongly advised not to publish some other piece of news until later in the month...

Our editorial  and other news will therefore come in the second part of this newsletter.

Artist Reception during Artwalk Easthampton
April 10, 5-8pm

" This exhibit reflects my memories and dreams, as well as some actual baseball history" says Phillips in his Artist Statement. " I was inspired by the many hours of baseball, and subsequent variations that my brothers, friends and even Mom and Dad and I played during my childhood. This exhibit is a tribute to all who love the game, and all who love the joy of movement."

The Big Stretch

George Phillips's work has often appeared in regional newspapers such as The Daily Hampshire Gazette's Hampshire Life and the Berkshire Eagle of Pittsfield, his home town. He has completed several murals with and for children, in the Boston area, Holyoke, Pittsfield, and in Columbia South America during his time as a Peace Corps volunteer in the 1970s'. More recently Phillips was the winner of the third annual juried Eastmont Art Fund fundraiser that benefited the Easthampton Bear Fest.

Please note that, in George Phillips' words:

"A portion of the proceeds from the sales will be donated to the Avon Walk. My daughter Alissa and my niece Kate will once again participate in this two day fundraising event, to honor my niece Allison Dumont who passed away in early September of last year from breast cancer. Allison graced us all with her presence, her courage, her love of her family, and her inspirational sense of joy and wonder."

Peace!

Of the many exhibits happening this spring in the Valley I will only mention:

hutt exhibit

Photography and Art were two of the forces that drew Alfred and Lee Hutt to each other when they first met. They married and together have traveled widely, pursuing these interests.

This show represents a selection of images that reflect the content of their work...mostly it is about people...a person, who captures the imagination by revealing a compelling aspect of themselves. Caught in the instant the shutter is pressed and then put on paper...or translated into clay in a longer but no less focused way.

Alfred's selection of images is of India...for the beauty of its people, the color and the landscape.

Lee selected those pieces of sculpture that combine in some way with her photography.   About people...[occasionally a "thing"]...the nature of which is revealed in a unique way by the photograph.

Alfred Hutt is a member of the Pioneer Valley Photographic Artists and a practicing Ophthalmologist in Holyoke, Massachusetts.

Lee Hutt is a Fellow of the National Sculpture Society and a practicing sculptor in Holyoke and South Hadley, Massachusetts.
