As I'm writing this, delegates from most nations of the world are gathered in Copenhagen, Denmark, for the United Nations Climate Change Conference.
"The outcome of this historic conference will have reverberations for the future of humanity and the planet" Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon, opening speech, Dec. 8th.
About 3750 miles away in a little town in Western Massachusetts, a few residents object to the installation of solar panels on a nearby closed landfill, their main reason being that it would spoil the view from their backyard.

It's not like we're talking dirty coal burning power plants here,
not even biomass plant with it's constant stream of
delivering trucks,
we're not even talking windmills, quiet and quite sexy,
but more visible in the landscape,
no, we're talking solar panels: silent, low to the ground, clean.
No mess, no traffic, no smell, no sound. We're talking renewable resource, clean energy, we're talking Future.
But Not In My Back Yard!
According to even the most optimistic estimates there is for about 40 years of oil left on Earth. In 40 years my children will be a bit older than me and I'll be either 6ft under or with a bit of luck riding along in my solar powered wheelchair or monoplane.
I look pretty good for my age, huh?
These youth pills they invented back in the 20ies work really well.
Well, I can honestly not imagine myself telling my children that, back in 2010, I chose the quality of the view from my backyard over the quality of their future. Could you?
There will be a public hearing and council debate on this matter December 16 at 6:16PM at the music room of Whitebrook Middle School, Easthampton.
Please attend this important meeting.

Check this funky little promo brought to you by Easthampton City Space with help from Cindy Bow.
As you could see in the promo, approximately $2000 is needed to complete the final construction. Every little bit counts so if you have some change to spare, give it locally and help rejuvenate Easthampton's Main Street! $10, $20, or $100 is a great help. Give online, or make checks payable to Flywheel.
Better yet: come to the "Celebrate the Arts" party tonight, make a donation to Flywheel and enjoying the music, great company and Appolo Grill's fare.
