I give up trying to make predictions or trying to figure out how the current economic turmoil may affect my business. I give up because I'm usually wrong! It's not really my fault, more like yours actually! So you owe me one (hint: the color is red).
No let's be fair, it's really the other way around: I owe YOU. Big time. As many in the retail industry know very well, February is one of the slowest months of the year and, with the bleak economic outlook, the snow storms, no more Bush jokes, budget cuts and all that, I was ready for the worst. But the worst didn't happen, quite the opposite in fact: I was quite surprised - and very relieved believe me - when I did last February's numbers to see that they were actually better than February 08, better for that matter than any Februaries since we opened in 2001. So I owe you a very big and sincere

The strangest thing about last month is that you didn't even take much advantage of our inventory sale. We still have almost as many matboards and moldings as before the beginning of the sale and of course we have just as little storage space as before too. So we absolutely NEED to reduce our inventory. I'm terribly sorry to be so insistent but please, please come and help us reduce our stock:
All stock matboards are still 40% off and all stock moldings are also 40% off
This offer is valid until we can move confortably in our storage area again. And of course it is not valid with any other discounts, promotional offers, or coupons from Michael's.
Our "green sale" is still going on too: 20% off your first order of earth-friendly moldings or Eco-Care readymade frames. So "Come on down", to paraphrase Bob the Obnoxious Furniture Guy. By the way, have you noticed that he's been rather quiet lately.
Cutting down on advertising, Bob?
There ARE some good sides to this economic crisis after all.

The Eastmont Art Fund could not resist being part of this summer's most exciting Public Art Event in the region: the Easthampton Bear Fest.
Proceeds from the 3rd Annual Fundariser will benefit this ambitious project organized by
Easthampton City Arts.
If you are an artist living or working in the Pionner Valley, if you didn't feel like painting a bear or were not among the thirty five artists selected to decorate one of the bears but still want to take an artistic part in the EBF, this is for you: CALL TO ARTISTS

Speaking of Bears, Artist Amy Davis from New City Scenic & Display is already working on her "Paddy O'Bearen", one of the 35 bears that will be on display throughout Easthampton come June 13th.

the Some of the "bare" bears being unloaded and brought into the Eastworks building last month.
But unlike the 34 other artists who have until the end of May to complete their bear, Amy has to finish her's before this Sunday because Paddy O'Bearen will be the star of the Easthampton Float in the Holyoke St. Patrick's Parade.
Yes, the Easthampton Bear Fest will take part in Sunday's Parade, the second biggest St. Patrick's Parade in the country, and the EBF Committee is inviting residents of Easthampton to join Paddy O'Bearen and walk alongside the float.
If you're interested thank you for reading the following:
The parade begins at approximately 11:30 on Sunday, March 22, at the K-Mart Plaza on route 5 in Holyoke. To avoid congestion, participants should try to arrive at the Plaza between 10 and 11am. The Easthampton parade committee recommends that participants park their cars in the back of the K-mart and other businesses at the Plaza. To avoid congestion in Holyoke, it is recommended to get to the K-Mart Plaza via the Holyoke Mall exit off I91 and take Whitings Farms Rd. straight to the Plaza. Better yet: carpool, see below.
The end of the parade is near City Hall in Holyoke. It is recommended that pick-ups and parking at the end be in the Wherehouse or Open Square parking lots off Lyman Street in Holyoke. Car pooling is possible and encouraged: anyone interested in carpooling should meet at the parking lot behind One Cottage Street in Easthampton. For directions and meeting times please contact Stephanie Gibbs stephanie.gibbs@gmail.com. Thank you. For more information about the EBF float email me at info@eastmontgallery.net. Thank you. .
