I did not vote.
I'm not an American citizen. I moved to the US in 1997 so in theory I could have applied for citizenship in 2002, but by then Clinton had already left the Oral Office (oops, Freudian slip, sorry Monica) and Bush had been selected President, to paraphrase local artist Robert Bard.
American Citizenship had suddenly lost all its appeal.
So I waited.
I've been waiting for 8 years, and as I write this I realize that I'm not the only one. You waited too. You and about 65,855,918 millions other Americans like you. And millions, probably billions more around the globe have waited, eight years.
Eight years. What a waste, by George, what a waste!
But now I can! Yes I can! I will! You voted, and the wait is almost over. On January 21st 2009 (well maybe bit later, you know how I am with deadlines!) I will apply for American citizenship! Wow! That's really exciting!! That's why these exclamation marks keep popping up!!!
I don't know if I'm more excited by the idea of becoming an American citizen, proud of my president; or by the fact that Obama was elected with such a clear margin, sending and unequivocal message to the current administration; or by the thought of this administration's reign finally coming to an end. A medley of all three I suppose.
To help visualize this transition and to feel the difference between what we are going to leave behind and what we will be getting in return, please:
Feels good, doesn't it?
And here at Eastmont we feel so good that are offering 20% discount on all Obama related framing orders!
(Yes Alice, this offer is retroactive, your order does qualify)
Just mention this article when you place your order.
And please forward this newsletter to whomever you think might be interested in this offer - use the "forward" button at the bottom of this page, thank you.
This offer is valid until January 20, 2013, with a possible extension to January 20, 2017.
To be fair and non-partisan,
we will offer 20% off all Bush related framing too.
Offer ends tomorrow.

Arts related listings
I occasionally use this newsletter to announce upcoming events and exhibits. I do this only when they are related to Eastmont, either because the artists are customers of Eastmont, or friends of Eastmont - it's often both actually, and we're feeling real good about that - or because Eastmont has donated custom framing for the events.
It is not my intention that this newsletter becomes a calendar for arts related events. There is the perfect newsletter for these type of listings, namely the beautifully redesigned, very professionnally run
If you want to know about the Art Scene of the Pioneer Valley, or if you want to post an event, the Valley Arts Newsletter is IT. Check it out!

The Art of Giving
A benefit for Whole Children
Saturday, Nov. 15, 7 p.m Northampton Center for the Arts South Street, Northampton
This is no ordinary art event! It's not an auction or a raffle, because everyone who buys a premium ticket goes home with a piece of art! And this art is amazing! Whole Children has been so lucky to have received generous donations from some well-established artists from the valley and around the country. And much of the art is worth significantly more than the price of the ticket. The evening starts with a reception (free food, wine, and beer!) where you can browse the collection and take notes on your favorites. Then Rep. Ellen Story, the MC for the night, will pull tickets at random and guests will pick out their favorite piece
Aside from supporting the amazing work of Whole Children The Art of Giving is a night to enjoy great music and art, while hanging out with friends and friends-to-be!
There will be music by a chorus from the Berkshire Hills Music Academy as well as the Sandy Pearson Band.
The premium ticket of $150.00 will guarantee that you will leave with a work of art!
Guests, or anyone who wants to come but is not interested in a acquiring artwork can attend for $50.
There will be only as many tickets as there are pieces of art, so register early to assure a spot to this exciting evening!
If tickets have sold out by the time you register,
we will put you on a waiting list. To buy a ticket, call 413-585-8010 or visit

Doris Madsen has curated
A group exhibit that runs December 2 through January 5 at the Grubbs Gallery, The Williston Northampton School in Easthampton. The whole is more than the sum of its parts and each piece present in the show exemplifies an understanding of matter, personal, artistic and possibly more ethereal than originally apparent. Matter is not necessarily visible to the eye. Perhaps what these pieces reveal is obvious or maybe purposefully unclear.
The show will include prints, drawings, paintings, 3D objects and collage by six women, Doris Madsen and Kathleen Trestka of Easthampton, Hannah Richards and Mimi Lempart of Northampton, Julia Courtney of Wilbraham and Kathy Klompas of Clifton Park, New York. The artists reception will be Sunday, December 7, 2 to 5 pm. In addition to the regular hours the gallery will be open during the Easthampton Art Walk, December 13, 7 to 8:30 pm.
for more info, check the Grubbs Gallery website.
