I have to start this one with an apology
.

A couple of days ago I forwarded to my entire customer database one of the many election-related e-mails that we all receive daily. I don't remember which one, they tend to sound and look the same after a while. All I remember is that it was about Sarah Palin and that the content seemed to be more honest - yet still quite disturbing - than most of the others ones. That's actually why I sent it, that one and not the few millions other ones.

But I shouldn't have. As one of the offended people told me in his reply, I crossed the line when I hit the "send all" button, thus using my clients database for political reasons. Can't mix business and politics. Unless you're a politician of course. Then it seems like it's almost a duty. I replied to those who objected to this email, and complied with their request to no longer receive any emails from Eastmont. Which in itself is quite ironic because now they can't read this apology.

I will continue to voice my own opinion at the top of this newsletter about whatever topic I feel like rambling about, because I have the RIGHT to, because sometimes I have a serious NEED to, and because I actually ENJOY doing so.

But to you who are reading this and to the others who can't anymore, I tell hereby announce that I will no longer forward messages using the Eastmont e-mail list. Promise.

I'll use my other "inner circle" list only. Promise.

Now I just hope that the few who asked to be removed from my list will nevertheless remain customers. I value and respect each and everyone. And not doing so would be well, mixing business with politics, wouldn't it?

Anyway I won't say anything more about the subject. Well, actually just one thing because I happen to have something in common with Sarah Palin: we are both parents of a child born with Down Syndrome, and therefore I feel a bit more concerned about some of the facts that I recently found on line. Ms Palin, if by some amazing reversal of situation you are my next VP, I hope that you will be an advocate for the rights of invididuals with disabilities. But I have some doubts, because if you follow Mc Cain's policies like a good VP should, your baby and my daughter are NOT going to be well served by your administration, as is clearly evident if you compare Obama's and Mc Cain's positions and actions on the matters realted to people with disabilities. To see a comparative chart about both candidates, please click here, and thank Stavros for putting this information on the web.

So
Sarah, if you care about your baby's future, I hope you will try to change your boss's views on the matter, or maybe you should vote  for Obama.

Voilą!

The frame shop has been busy the last few weeks.

Several local artists have used our services to prepare for their exhibition. It's been a privilege to be able to work with them and find framing solutions that not only fit the style of their art but their operating budget as well.

Three of them are Photographers but working with very different techniques and style:
Marty Klein exhibits his "scanographic images" at the Forbes Library's Hosmer Gallery:

lavaux

Amanda Quinby
, whose work can be seen at the Food for Thought Bookstore in Amherst, works with emulsions on watercolor paper that she then exposes to the sun to reveal the image from the negatives.

Andy Grant, showing at the Western Massachusetts Recovery Learning Community in Holyoke defines his art as "Gestural Photography", and has found in our Uki-Zo floating frames the perfect solution to showcase his art.

And three of them are Painters, also very different in style and technique:

Claire Metzner's watercolors are now on display on the walls of the Easthampton Chamber of Commerce.

Juli Kirk 's oil paintings can be admired at the ECA/ECC office/gallery in the Old Town Hall,

just across the hall (that's been stripped of its vinyl tiles but not yet refinished) from the Elusie Gallery, where
Ron Parent exhibits recent work in pastels and a couple of oil paintings. More about parent's show "by the Sea" in the Elusie section of this newsletter.

 The Elusie Gallery
 is proud to host

"By the Sea"
an exhibiton of recent work by
Ronald Parent

by the sea parent

 and invites you to the
Artist's Reception
this Saturday
October 11th from 5 to 8pm

What has impressed me most in Parent's work is his masterful command of the challenging pastel media, that he is using equally efficiently to create  soft moody landscapes

The exhibition runs through November 8th.
Not to be missed!

The Eastmont Art Fund
has chosen the beneficiary of its third annual fundraiser.

Selecting the next recipient of the Eastmont Art Fund is always such a painful process: the mission and dedication of all the applicants are equally important in their own ways and all worth supporting. And I hate to say No! But once a year I willingly set myself up to have to say NO a lot and Yes only once! So here we go: The recipient of the 2008-2009 Art Exhibit Fundraiser is:

The 2009 Easthampton Bear Fest organized by Easthampton City Arts.

You may not yet be familiar with this event, which is in it's early stage of organization. In one short sentence, the Easthampton Bear Fest is going to be the biggest Public Art Project ever undertaken in Easthampton and very likely the biggest public event in the history of this city. You can learn more about it by visiting EasthamptonCityArts.com

The reasons for this choice are the followings:

~ The EAF felt it could not miss the opportunity to be involved in an artistic and public event that will affect Easthampton and the whole region.
~ The ECA needs to raise funds towards the successful completion of this operation, and the Art Fund's fundraiser wanta to be part of this effort.
~ The proceeds from the auction of the bears will benefit artists and arts related programs, which is in concordance with the EAF's mission that wants to help local organizations as well as the local arts community.
~ The EAF recognizes and values the important impact that ECA has had in the local Arts scene and in the dynamisation of  Easthampton since its creation in 2005, and hopes that the Bear Fest will give a more public recognition of this fact.
~ The EAF fundraiser will allow artists who will not be able to "paint a bear" to still be actively and artistically involved in the Bear Fest by participating in this parallel fundraising effort.
~ The  EAF's fundraising exhibit will be a significant addition to the calendar of arts- and bear- related events that will take place in Easthampton throughout the summer and fall of 2009.

I want to thank all the organizations that have applied, some for the second time, and as I mentioned in the letter sent to them recently, their application will be kept and automatically entered for the 4th edition of the Eastmont Art Fund.

More information about the third annual eastmont Art Fund will be announced soon on our website, via press release and this newsletter. Stay tuned!

News about other Newsletters.

If you already subscribe to the Art Newsletter Experiment that was published by Michael and Tom from Artwalk Easthampton fame, and before that by Mo (how are you Mo?)  you know that it is now called The Valley Arts Newsletter and is put together by Bronwen Hodgkinson. Very nicely I must add, it reminds me of something, somehow. Anyway, if you haven't signed up yet, click on the link above, is well done, useful and worth having in your inbox once a week.

Another local newsletter is coming up soon: CitySpace, the organization in charge of the revitalization of Easthampton's Old Town Hall into a Center for the Arts will publish a e-newsletter starting this winter.
