Helping the planet one picture hanger at a time. . .
At the risk of disappointing some of you, Eastmont will no longer give out complimentary hangers.
Based an extensive market research, a totally reliable survey our customers (thank you Bob and Janet) and some strong first hand investigation (thank you Cindy), it seems like most of you don't use them anyway. That will mean a little less plastic and a little less metal in your trash.
Actually this is just an excuse. The real reason behind this decision is
LIABILITY!!!
Even though we give give out hangers that fit the weight of the frame, we don't know what kind of wall you are going to hang your frame on: drywall, wood panel, brick, lath and plaster? We also don't know what tools you're going to use and how skilled or clumsy you are. It is simply way too stressfull!
These seemingly harmless little hangers could be totally inappropriate,
and using the wrong one or using it the wrong way could have consequences
that we would rather not have to deal with.
We are sure you will understand.
NOTE: complimentary hangers will still be available upon request (and upon signing a notorized 3 page waiver). |

Judging by the applications already returned, Art as Witness promises to be an eclectic and thought-provoking exhibition. In styles including expressionism, realism, symbolism and even abstraction, artists have created pieces that depict the "Community Values" that are close to their hearts, while others have chosen to show their concerns or opinions about social, environmental or political issues.
The Fundraising Exhibit will take place from February 16th through March 22nd at The Elusie Fine Art Gallery in Easthampton's Old Town Hall at 43 Main St. The winner of the Juried Competition will be announced during the Artists' Reception on Saturday February 23rd, from 5-8. The public is invited to attend the reception, and meet the artists. The winning artist will sign limited edition prints of the selected work, and all original pieces will be for sale.
Proceeds will be used to hire local artists to teach cultural workshops at the 2008 Family Gathering, a community-building program organized by the Easthampton-based Rosenberg Fund for Children.
A second public event on March 6th from 6:30-8:30 pm, entitled "Gathering Community Voices," will feature a poetry reading by Martín Espada and music by José Ayerve. Both Martín and José have participated in past Rosenberg Fund for Children Family Gatherings and served on the organization's Board of Directors. Their performances will "give voice" to the themes of the exhibit and provide a glimpse of the community-building through art that is at the core of the Rosenberg Fund for Children's Gatherings program.
The Eastmont Art Fund's mission is to involve local artists in fundraising for local organizations to their MUTUAL benefit. In this unique project, artists receive commissions on all sales of original artwork, and the remaining proceeds benefit the designated community organization. Additionally, the jury-selected winning artwork will be published in a limited edition, archival print and both the artist and beneficiary group will receive income from the sale of these prints.
A SEPARATE INVITATION/EMAIL WILL BE SENT SOON WITH IMAGES AND STATEMENTS OF ALL SUBMITTED ENTRIES. | |
