Sunshine Cathedral reaches out to Africa
Sunshine Cathedral, Ft. Lauderdale, Florida has extended its hand across the Atlantic Ocean and across the continent of Africa to provide greatly needed medical equipment to destitute and orphaned children and their caregivers and families. Three wheelchairs, six pairs of crutches and four walkers were enthusiastically and gratefully received by the staff of the Sugarbaker Memorial Clinic for Children and Families, located in the Nyeri District of the Central Highlands of Kenya. The equipment arrived just in time to be put to immediate use at a mid-week free clinic day.
After nearly 10 years of fund-raising, planning, constructing and equipping, the Sugarbaker Memorial Clinic finally opened its doors to the public in January of 2009. The Sugarbaker Memorial Clinic is the first, and only, community-based, specialized pediatric clinic in the Nyeri District of Kenya. The clinic services the on-going medical needs of nearly 1000 children including the 280 children at the Tumaini Children's Home and Day Scholars Program and the Huruma Children's Home and hundreds more children from other homes for destitute and orphaned children and destitute children living with family members in the surrounding area.

Share your Green Thumbs! Our Gardening and Landscaping Team is looking for a few new people to help with the lawn care on our Cathedral campus. This volunteer ministry team plants flowers, weeds the garden, clips bushes and mows the lawn as needed. If you are able to help out a couple hours one Sunday a month, please contact Team Leader Joel Cyr by email at joe954c@yahoo.com. |
It's Loaves and Fishes Sunday Sunday is Loaves and Fishes Sunday. Every month the Sunshine Cathedral's Loaves and Fishes ministry collects food donations for the needy. Next Sunday please bring your donations of non-perishable food to church and drop them off at the donation table, located in the courtyard nest to the Chapel. When dropping off your donations don't forget that you are entitled to one drawing ticket for every item donated. September's drawing prize is a $25.00 gift card to Outback restaurant.
