TIP OF THE WEEK |
|
Did you know? Meals on Wheels has over 30 corporations that volunteer during their lunch hour? We partner with local offices who agree to deliver a route once a week, or bi-monthly. The offices rotate the responsibilties, get a chance to volunteer during the work day and promote teamwork! One volunteer says:
"We have built additional understanding with co-workers. We feel a real attachment to the clients we serve and we look forward to seeing them each week."
Do you know anyone interested in possibly joining our team of corporate volunteers? Contact Jan at janice@mowgvl.org
**Share your insiders' secrets and experiences with other volunteers. Email your tips to SherylD@mowgvl.org** |

Jan's Corner: Attention Delivery Volunteers!
If a meal recipient does not answer the door (even if they make a habit of not answering the door) please call Meals on Wheels every time. We will call them or their family to make sure they have not fallen or are ill to the point that they cannot get to the door. Also, please never leave a meal outside.
Take a look at the open routes and office volunteer spots that are needing to be filled!
NOTE: Orientation Date Change: Thursday, May 29 at 9:30 a.m. |

BI-LO Charity Classic
June 7th begins the 25th BI-LO Charity Classic Golf Tournament! BI-LO and Meals on Wheels have enjoyed a long and cherished relationship since the inception of the BI-LO Charity Classic 25 years ago. The BI-LO Charity Classic is the brainchild of a group of Greenville businessmen including former BI-LO President Bill Yingling and former Meals on Wheels chairmen Dean Anderson and Larry Greer. While initially started to support Meals on Wheels, the tournalment (the largest one-day charity golf tournament in the United States) now benefits more than 500 nonprofit organizations dedicated to hunger relief, educational opportunities, and health and well being of children. In 2007, the tournament raised more than 5.5 million dollars! |

HOT MEALS V. COLD DRINKS...
Remember to keep hot meals separate from cold drinks and cold meals. It is all about food safety!
BYOC
We encourage volunteers to bring their own insulated containers. A larger one for your hot meals (perhaps on wheels) and a smaller one for cold/frozen meals and cold beverages. Using your own container ensures that there will always be one available for you and that it is clean! It also eliminates the need to return to MOW after your route to return coolers which saves you time and mileage.
NEED A DAY OFF?
Pl ease let us know if you are unable to volunteer on your regular day due to vacation, illness, or for any other reason so we may arrange for a substitute. If you have arranged for your own substitute, THANK YOU! but still let us know who will be filling your shoes.
SUBSTITUTE LIST AVAILABLE If you have not done so, please pick up a list of substitues for your route at the reception desk. |
