MYTH #1: Almost no men have plastic surgery (except maybe in Hollywood).

 

FALSE: According to Dr. Brahme, men are a growing part of the patient mix. He said, "Though many traditionally think cosmetic surgery is all about women, we are finding that cosmetic surgery in men is increasing. Men have the same concerns with their appearance as women and studies have shown that there is increasing acceptance of cosmetic surgery among men. Plus, now that more women are having procedures, they are encouraging and enabling their husbands and boyfriends to have a 'little something' done to improve their appearance."
 

MYTH #2: The most popular procedures being done on men are pectoral implants and other trends. 

 

FALSE: Actually, according to Dr. Brahme, the top three procedures among men are liposuction, eyelid lifts (Blepharoplasty in plastic surgery speak) and rhinoplasty (nose reshaping). "All are outpatient procedures with relatively little downtime and discomfort. They also tend to have minimal scars, which men tend to like," notes Dr. Brahme. In addition, he said that a "side benefit" of each of these procedures is "the competitive edge men feel after having undergone this kind of transformation."
  
MYTH #3: It's unmanly to want to improve my appearance... plus growing old makes me look more distinguished.  

 

TRUE AND FALSE: While many men look more distinguished with age, you'd be surprised how much maintenance and grooming they take to get that look! We have many men come in for injectables such as Botox to lessen their worry lines, and for fillers such as Restylane® or Sculptra® to refresh their facial features. Dr. Brahme adds, "Men tend to be very satisfied with their results, and we see a lot of men whose appearance, as well as outlook on life and sensation of youthfulness is increased and improved after surgery or injectable treatments. Men are definitely a growing segment of the cosmetic surgery population, and no longer is it considered 'unmanly' to look your best."
