multi-tasking
I usually work better when I multi-task...a little on this project one day, some more on another project the next. This process usually allows me the freedom to play and be creative as the mojo hits me. I've been working on creating downloadable workshops for some of my retired 2008 workshops, as well as, developing NEW ones that will be available exclusively through donnadowney.com in 2009. With the launch of campaign for creativity, I have been completely invigorated by concept of empowerment and creativity, inspired by the reminder of how we can encourage each other to dream with possibility everyday. This holiday season I am going to choose to see moments as opportunities and embrace the changes I see in my self. The new year always brings with it the idea of fresh starts and new beginnings and I invite you to join me in this crusade for clarity and inspiration. This month think about your goals/dreams and set a plan in place see them through! Tis the season to be inspired by generosity, kindness and peace...celebrate these moments in your life! |

wax
I am a little late on the scene, but lately I have been so intrigued by the use of wax on projects. I love how applying layers of wax drastically changes the texture and translucence of a piece, nevermind the possibilities of layering 3-dimensional objects and best of all it is fun! For this piece I painted the background with acrylic paints and allowed it to dry. then used Ranger Melt Art Melting Pot
and Ranger 3-1/2 Ounces Melt Art Beeswax, White to layer items directly to the canvas. I used my embossing gun to melt and work the wax that I applied to the canvas. If you are as interested in playing with wax as I am here are some items and videos you should check out. This is the book that kinda started it all. what I did on this canvas is not encaustic (mine is much simpler), but I really am intrigued by the encaustic products and techniques. There are tons of videos to watch demonstrating wax techniques, but these are some of my faves. Here are links to some of the tools that are referenced in the videos...i do not have any of them, but I thought maybe like me, you would like to see more information about the costs, colors, etc

trash to treasure
BUSINESS CARDS Kirsty Neale, london, UK
Kirsty made these mini-books from business cards and became a easily addicted! The 'pages' are made from two business cards, glued front-to-front (i.e. printed sides together), with two lengths of ribbon sandwiched between. They can then be decorated, either by gluing on more decorative papers, or by painting/stamping directly on to the white cards before adding photos and embellishments. The pages close, accordion-style, and the ribbons tie around the covers (made in the same way as the rest of the pages, but with slightly thicker card coverings) to hold them in place. I added photos to both sides of each page, so they could also be displayed standing up. With the right kind of images, and a loop in one end of the ribbon, rather than two straight ends, they'd also work as mini wall-hangings.
Decembers Trash to Treasure challenge is POSTAGE! no i do not want you to go out and buy a book of stamps, that would be silly, but as you receive holiday greetings in the mail save the postmarks and use them creatively on your next project! If you're up to this month's challenge, email photos of your Trash to Treasure project to donna@donnadowney.com
by december 30th and write "postage" in the subject line and
you just might find your work may be featured in the next Creative
Playground newsletter.
