Greetings!
I'm back!! Okay, really I couldn't even begin to tell the stories of our weeks abroad...there were ups; beautiful vistas, amazing people, friends, monuments, adventures, languages, driving on both sides of the road, wines, food, Guinness. and then there were the downs; constant travel, cranky kids and parents, stolen passport & computer (with all my 6 weeks worth of photos), bad conversion rates and of course, the dead body carried out from Burger King as we ate.
See what I mean, a lifetime of stories that will surely be really funny 6 months from now.
however, that said it was one amazing family vacation!
I am excited about being back home and all the exciting new things I will be working on over the next several months, so hold on tight for one creative ride!

inside the studio
|
oh studio, how i missed thee... The one thing I really missed (besides Tango of course) so many weeks away from home was the luxury of
creating. I spent weeks inspired by the people, places and things I saw
and was unable to play and get dirty creatively. I missed my studio, but moreso the luxury of creating at will.
So when we arrived home at 3 PM Tuesday, jet-lagged and all, by 10 PM I had already created this canvas...like a self cleansing purge of pent-up creativity energy.
I gathered a thousand and one ideas in my notebook over the past 6 weeks and can't wait to execute them. Among them are Ideas for next year's INSPIRED. and how I am going to attempt an even craftier idea for nametags, ideas for some FREE online class videos and project downloads via my website, ideas for projects using my new collage stamps with Art Declassified, concepted some new fabric classes to take on the road and some new digital products with Polka Dot Potato.
I literally filled 2/3 of my notebook, so for the next few weeks the studio will be my sweet salvation of creative execution!

European scrapbookers It was absolutely refreshing to get the chance to witness how different European styles of scrapbooking are not only from the American, but from country to country within Europe. Quite distinctively unique and full of technique and experimentation.
It's no secret that at some point many times we as scrapbookers get caught up in the concept of "rights and wrongs" of scrapbooking only to find out that there weren't any rules to begin with. Scrapbooking is a craft without definition and to blur the preconceived lines in itself is creativity at it's best, it is where inspiration is born...
I was absolutely enamored by the French use of bright bold colors and contained layering, stamps and great use of white space. It was simply fun to watch them use and incorporate all sorts of stamps into everything. labels, roller #'s, botanical, calendar, lists, words, edges
Check out Karine's, Celine's and Chrys's blogs to see what i mean.
I love it!

trash to treasure
|
black and white and red all over... Ok, so why newspaper you ask? 4 weeks worth of newspapers sitting in my recycling bin with nothing but a creative purpose to find.
So read 'em, and creatively recycle them into this months trash to treasure challenge.
If you're up to the challenge, email your trash to treasure pictures to donna@donnadowney.com by July 25th and write "NEWSPAPER" in the subject line and you just might find your work may be featured in the August Creative Playground newsletter.

What a Journey!
After a month of travel in Europe with 3 kids, living in hotels, several flights, trains, subways, taxis, etc...there is no place like home!
We had such a amazing trip with a few curve balls thrown our way. However it was all worth it. We travelled through Holland, we kissed the Blarney Stone and drove through the Ring of Kerry in Ireland, the kids finally got to see Big Ben and the Beefeaters in England, and we relaxed on the beach in Spain. Plus Donna and I even learned to drive on the other side of the road. We met some amazing people along the way and had such a great time.
Also dont forget that registration opens for the Inspired. Artist Workshop soon! If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at bill@donnadowney.com
