meet christina lazar-schuler
Christina Lazar-Schuler is the Owner/Creative Director of Lazar
StudioWERX, a Canadian manufacturer of fine art rubberstamps,
handpainted printed papers and the Claudine Hellmuth Poppets(R)
product line. Christina, with her husband Terry, have created and
brought their inspired line of products to the wholesale, retail and
online craft markets for nearly seven years, consistently maintaining
top quality products with a strong artistic vision.
Coming from a strong graphic design and mixed media art background,
Christina's paper arts style can be described as eclectic; she spins
what would be considered 'traditional' layout design with unusual,
vintage ephemera and then injects it with modern edginess that evokes
a youthful and urban style. Her teaching experience is rooted
primarily in the mixed media realm, with classes being taught around
image and Polaroid transfer, acrylic painting, collage, collage
quilting and altered books; however, she is excited about the
opportunity to share her more 'arty' techniques with scrapbookers -
hoping to push them out of their creative boxes and into a place of
experimentation and discovery.
Christina has been published several times in Somerset Studios
magazine, Memory Makers magazine, is a contributing artist in
Claudine Hellmuth's new book (2008 release) and will also be a
contributor in Donna Downey's latest book (2008 release).

Textile Anthology Description: A fun, photo, fabric, floral, ribbon, and bead filled class that explores the fusion of collage quilting and scrapbooking. Throughout the class, we will be working on a 8x8 quilt 'canvas'. We will explore creating and using image transfers in your artwork, hand-stitch printed photo(s) and embellishments including silk flowers and work with beads and ribbon to add layers of interest and texture. In addition to the techniques and ideas already mentioned, I will be teaching some basic-intermediate embroidery stitches that can used to further 'quilt' your 8x8 fabric canvas. These stitches add additional texture and depth to quilting, and provide a foundation of knowledge that can later be applied to your traditional paper arts projects and scrapbook layouts. Come to class armed with your creative energy and get ready for a new twist on scrapbooking and quilting. This ain't your grandmother's quilt! Tools STUDENTS must bring:
PHOTOS: 3-4 B/W photos printed no larger that 4x6 [ideally with girls/women as the subject matter since the fabric being used is quite pretty and feminine] We will be using a single 4x6 photo in the class as shown in the sample, but you may want to consider using wallet sized images for a more layered look. This is totally up to you... Colour photos are ok, but may not work with the colour scheme of the fabric. If color is preferred, bring a wider variety of images, all no larger than 4x6
SEWING: thimble for handstitching to protect fingers if desired small SHARP scissors for embroidery regular SHARP scissors to cut transparency for image transfer and fabric
