inside the studio
|
Inside the studio there are big things happening. I am officially in full fledge book mode, which means I have been given deadlines and I will have no time to procrastinate. I am always better when I have a looming deadline to keep up with. I have also been busy working on something amazing, you could say it was "inspired." even. It is bold and exciting and will be announced really soon! keep an eye out for hints and more information on my website over the next couple of months and keep your calendars free for the spring 2008! (hint, hint!)
With all of this going on, you can imagine that inside my studio there are multiple piles and messes: lots of scrapbookng, the sewing machine and fabric quarters are flying and the paperwork and emails are piling up. Ahhh the quiet comforts of chaos.
With minor readjustments to the website, it seems like the initial launch of my art journal class and fonts are working smoothly, if you have any problems just let us know, and please, please share what you have been inspired to create because i would love to create a gallery.

inspired by...
|
Paint, watercolor pencils/crayons, colored pencils and chalk pencils
These are things I have either had in my stash at one time or another or have recently acquired and am enjoying putting them into regular use. I realized I love playing with color, shape and texture and learning more about it just gets me excited. But this goes beyond transforming a blank piece of paper into a more colorful one, but rather exploring just how many ways there are to use these colorful tools.
I spent an hour looking through these artworks on the Prismacolor website simply in awe of what these artists were able to create with colored pencils. Feeling so inspired, I purchased my first set of watercolor pencils, just to play and experiment with.
i thought theses sites were both fun and inspirational, maybe you will too! kal barteski's colored pencil tiplets kal barteski's watercolor pencil tiplets watercolor pencil class watercolored seashell steps watercolor resist

trash to treasure
|
Last month's trash to treasure presented the challenge of turning brown paper or plastic grocery bags into something worth talking about. Take a look at how Tammy
Mellish of Bellows Falls, VT took on the challenge and created the most adorable cards.
for more fun and recycled inspiration take a look at how others turn their trash into creative treasure.
Summertime means time to switch out the sweaters for the tank tops, the boots for the flip-flops and the pants for the shorts. Inevitably this means a shopping excursion for not only myself, but for the whole family because either I (unfortunately) or my family has grown out of their wardrobe. So in honor of this summertime tradition, this month's trash to treasure challenge should incorporate turning those merchandise tags/price tags from our summertime purchases into something worth keeping. The next time you go to Target or your local scrapbook store document your trip (or trips) by creating a page or altering them somehow to create something unique!
If you're up to the challenge, email your trash to treasure pictures to TTT@donnadowney.com and write "shopping tags" in the subject line and you just might find your work may be featured in the July Creative Playground newsletter.
