Greetings! Happy spring! As you continue to plan for future seasons, we wanted to let you know about two exciting new plays that have recently been added to the PYA catalog: Esperanza Rising and Honus and Me. |
|
Esperanza Rising ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Esperanza Rising is based on the Pura Belpre
Award winning book by Pam Muņoz Ryan. This book
has been read by thousands of school children nation-
wide, and was on numerous top ten lists of books for
2000 including the “Excellence in a Work of Fiction
Award by the Children's Literature Council of
Southern California.” Esperanza Rising was
adapted by the notable playwright Lynne Alvarez and
had its world premiere production at The Children’s
Theatre Company (CTC) this spring. CTC found
Esperanza Rising to be a huge success not
only by box office numbers but also by great critical
response and enthusiasm for the play by CTC’s
audiences.
This is a powerful and timely play that can be an impactful part of your production season. Check out recent reviews on Esperanza Rising at www.playsforyoungaudiences.org/synopsis |

Honus and Me ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Honus and Me is based on the acclaimed book
by Dan Gutman, author of over 60 books for children,
adapted for the stage by Steven Dietz. Honus
and Me has been nominated in over ten states
for Young Reader’s Awards, and in 2001 won the
California Young Reader Medal. Honus and Me
is about how Joe Stoshack, a young boy who is an
avid baseball card collector, finds the most valuable
baseball card in the world - the 1909 Honus Wagner
T-206 while cleaning out his elderly neighbor’s attic.
But there is more to this card than what money can
buy; with this card Joe is able to summon Honus
Wagner himself, straight from 1909. Amazingly, Honus
thinks Joe has potential at his favorite pastime. But it
isn’t until they both go back to 1909 and the seventh
game of the World Series that Joe finds out just how
good he can be. The confidence and self-esteem
Honus helps Joe discover in himself is a gift that
withstands the test of time.
Honus and Me builds the long-sought link between sports and art for the stage. Honus and Me will help you reach new connections in your community by not only expanding your audience but appealing to new sponsors or donors.Check out recent reviews on Honus and Me at www.playsforyoungaudiences.org/synopsis |
